Open parcels and letters - Is the Post Office system broken
- Finchie (20th Dec 2008 - 11:34:48)
Now this is really starting to get on my goat...
I have had a large number of parcels and letters where the corner has been opened and someone has clearly checked the contents.
I know it is not our postie, as he has been with us for years, and it has never happened before - I totally trust him.
It does not happen with non Post Office "special" deliveries dropped off by van e.g. Amazon etc.
It is not just parcels - also "official" looking letters that look like they may contain a cheque.
It's not the kids checking to see what they have got for Christmas.
I don't "think" my wife has got me under investigation (although I am regularly followed by a black car !!).
Further evidence - my Mum has experienced the same 20 miles away. Stuff we sent to New Zealand - same problem (Customs always label parcels clearly when they check).
I have to believe it is the Post Office sorting system and a breakdown in their process.
Anyone else experiencing the same ?
Cheers, Finchie

Funny you should mention that Finchie!
I've recently noticed an open 'corner' on two official looking envelopes and thought they must have been torn by the franking machine perhaps.....

Some years ago a lovely lady worked for the same company as I in the Chichester area. Her husband worked in the local sorting office for a time ,UNTIL, his employers caught him doing exactly what you are reffering to. In his case he was stealing cheques, but, apparently, temporary staff consider Dec. bonanza time.

What a coincidence - I received an empty opened envelope from the US which should have contained a card and a cheque. It can't be our postie either as we have known her for ages. This is the first time something like this has happened in the 12 years we have lived in Liphook.

I ought to raise this with Royal Mail. If anyone who has suffered from this could e-mail me (arbuthnotj@parliament.uk) details of dates, packets or envelopes, who from, empty or otherwise, etc, I can then ask for an investigation.
