Dubious BT email ?
- Paul E (22nd Feb 2014 - 09:14:29)

Has anybody had an email appearing to be from BT asking for you to confirm some personal details? It did not address me personally but as 'Dear Valued Customer'. Sounds odd to say the least! I have forwarded it to BT 'abuse' email address asking for verification but have had no reply.

Sounds wrong to me.

Hi Paul,

It is a scam, just ignore it.

I get, on average, three or four of these a day!

They all use BT logos, illustrations and typeface. They variously announce that they are 'Activating your BT.com profile 2014' or 'We've received a request to terminate your account' or 'Your Classic version of BY Yahoo'. or 'Your latest BT bill is now available online'.

One thing they all have in common is that although at the top they say that they come from ebilling@BT.com the address in brackets that follows is something like [bernard.tomalin@talktalk.com] or [sarahsims16a@aol.com] or [epsmgmt01@aol.com]

Sometimes the crafty sods add 'The sender has requested a confimation of receipt of this e-mail'.

DON'T, whatever you do, send this confirmation or 'click here ' in the body of the e-mail They are all scams.

I have tried to report this to BT and all I got was a curt thank you and a reference number for my report.

You cannot, of course speak to a human about this which makes me think that either they don't care or they are powerless to do anything about it.

Either way this activity has undermined my confidence in BT as an internet provider and when some day they genuinely want to contact me by e-mail I shall ignore it.

Hi, I was away last week but apparently sent the whole world an email, just my name was on it, not from my email address

Anita, I think you have picked up something nasty from an email from Donna. I had one from her (which I ignored) but then got almost an identical one from you last week. Donna probably opened an infected email from a friend that then sent itself to everyone in her address book. Very annoying! Hope you had a good holiday by the way!
