BEWARE - another telephone scam - Jay W (13th Feb 2014 - 17:27:06) My Mother rang me today having received a call from someone claiming to be from the Telephone Subscription Service (she may have misheard and it could be the Telephone Restriction Service). For 55 pence per week they could stop all her nuisance calls for her. Fortunately she still has all her marbles and knows never to give bank or credit card details to anyone that phones her but she pleads ignorance and says her daughter won't let her agree to anything without discussing with her first (charmingly making me sound a right dragon)! They provided her with their 0800 number and said they would call her again after the week-end. A quick check online (thanks to Editor for pointing me in direction of Money Saving Expert Forums in a previous thread) and there are indications from Wikipedia, the Guardian and the Telephone Preference Service that this is most likely a scam, probably an unregulated service and unlikely to work in any event. Lots of different versions came to light so please be aware and warn elderly friends and relatives.
