Station road caravan
- Joan (30th Jan 2014 - 09:18:46)

Has anyone noticed the old caravan parked beside the launderette in station road.is this not illegal and does anyone think someone may be living in it,who is responsible for it and who is responsible for getting it moved away, how long before it becomes a caravan park if not dealt with quickly?

I had just this problem when I lived in Godalming
A kind neighbour parked his caravan outside my house RIGHT outside my house so he could park his car outside HIS house, at the time the number plate did not match his car so I didn't realise it was his

A swift call to the police gleaned the following info
1, if it is not occupied by people living in it
2, if it is in reasonable condition
3, if it is not blocking a public highway or is a hazard to traffic

Then Guess What........ there isn't a lot you can do!

I said to the very helpful PC, "does that mean that I could buy a caravan and park it outside your house with no recourse if I comply with the above?" the reply was " That's about the size of it"

I put up with it for about 3 Months, it finally went when a truck lost its load of steel beams and damaged it, leaving it hanging across the road, what a shame

Unless the policy has changed of course or it is on council land it could be a problem, Good luck

Having just driven past it, I think it's clear to see that it is probably just parked there as a place for the owner to park it as they may not have space at their house for it.

Hardly the start of an invasion and a typical Liphook over-reaction

Richard if everyone decided to park a caravan on public spaces as they had no room for parking we would have chaos.

Do people not pay for caravan storage if they have no parking space, or maybe wise not to buy a caravan in the first place, the land is not the caravan owners to park on, End of

Quite right Jenny, you can not leave things around just because you do not have the space.
How long has it been there as I would suggest it was towed there and dumped. It is certainly not in the most pristine of condition.

Surely a factor in the thought process when purchasing a caravan is 'Do I have somewhere sensible to store it'?

When I view this talkback page, at the very bottom there is a pop up about a caravan stolen in Liphook...could this be the very same one?
If so, let me know, there's a £250 reward!!!

I walked past the caravan on Friday, all the curtains were shut, and I couldn't help but notice the decent wheels on it and huge big lock to stop it being towed away. It's too clean and tidy for being dumped!!

Donna having had a good look at the caravan yesterday indeed it has a lock on it but it is far from good condition. The back end of it is held together with black tape ,the wheels are far from decent,it has no number plates to reveal who owns this hunk of junk and I in my opinion would think it has been dumped. Also the area where it's Dumped has a two hour parking restriction for cars .so why should this be allowed to take up parking space that could be serving the local shops.Parking in this area is difficult for shoppers at the best of times!!!

I suppose you could just pull it out into the road - then call the police?
