Today my husband had just come home from walking our 3 dogs across the fields at the back of our house, when we heard an almighty scream! We looked back across the field and saw a man with two big dogs off the lead and a lady with a small dog.
The two big dogs attacked the little dog, and it was the little dog that was screaming.
I myself did not see this but my daughter (16) did! She is sure the little dog was killed!!!
I wander if they were the same dogs the op saw?

Rachel.
Where was the incident you heard and your daughter saw? Was it anywhere near Lynchmere common?
It is so saddening to hear that a small dog was possible killed by dogs with an irresponsible owner.
We got of fairly lightly, my Yorkshire terrier suffered a torn stomach and a bitten leg. I was bitten on the hand. All the owner said in a sarcastic voice was "Have you got a problem" before she beat a hasty retreat.

Hi Jaybe, so sorry to hear of the horrific injury’s your little one suffered.
This incident happened in the field behind our house, the fields they plan to build a host of houses on for the life of me I can't remember the name!
I live in a cul-du-sac off of Longmoor Rd, hope this helps.
I wish your little dog a speedy recovery bless her.

Sickening stories - dog owners don't help themselves to avoid bad press do they? Surely muzzles on vicious/bad tempered dogs is an easy way to protect them and those around them but still let them have freedom off lead? Sounds like the owner needed a muzzle as well ........
Hope you and your dog are recovering well - what a dreadful experience. I will continue to search out quiet, mud free areas for my walks with hound.

We are so lucky to have such lovely countryside to walk in but there is always a few irresponsible people who spoil other's pleasure. My daughter and I both fear dogs when out walking and on several occasions have been terrified by them bounding towards us. The owners general responses are 'it's never done that before' or 'it won't hurt you'. I am sorry but that is not good enough and owners of animals must be responsible at all times to enable us all to enjoy the fresh air in public places.

Both these incidents sound absolutely horrific. I regularly walk in both of these places with my rather nervous dog but I have certainly now been put off from doing so. I was just wondering if either of you would be able to give any more details about the offending dogs incase I, or anybody else should have the misfortune to spot them out on a walk. Were the lynchmere dogs the english bull terriers or staffies, and what colours were they? Also what breed/colour were the ones in the field?. I'm not trying to stigmatise any dog breeds, colours or innocent owners, but it may be very helpful to others to know what to look out for if they are worried. Many thanks, and I hope you and your dog get well soon.

My husband spoke to a lady yesterday whose dog had just been attacked and injured by two large bull mastiffs who were running loose on the Lowsley Farm fields near the Longmoor Road.
This is obviously extremely concerning for all of us who walk dogs in that area and one can only hope that the owner of the two dogs concerned takes immediate steps to prevent such an unacceptable incident reoccurring.

That sounds like the incident I heard and my daughter saw!
My husband had just come back from walking our 3, which incidentally are all kept on leads with a yellow ribbon attached. The yellow ribbon is a uk wide symbol to let other dog walkers know your dog dose not like to be "played" with!
Thank goodness the smaller dog did not loose it's life as my daughter had thought.

Re: Lynchmere Common Dog Walkers
- Jaybee (31st Dec 2013 - 22:01:15)
The attack on Lynchmere common has now been reported to the police who have taken the matter seriously and have issued the following
"A couple have reported that while walking their Yorkshire Terrier on Linchmere Common - just off the B2131 Liphook Road between Liphook and Haslemere - at about noon on Christmas Day they were attacked by two large, muscular sandy-coloured dogs.
These dogs burst from the undergrowth and set upon the terrier. When it was picked up by its owner he was bitten on the hand, and the terrier suffered bites to its belly and a hind leg.
A woman appeared who led the large dogs away. She was white, in her late 30s to early 40s, well dressed and with mid-length, sandy blonde hair. She came from the direction of Danley Lane.
Police would like to hear from anyone who saw the incident or noticed the two large dogs with their owner. She herself is urged to come forward. They are asked to phone Sussex Police on 101 or email: 101@sussex.pnn.police.u, quoting serial 0352 of 29/12."
Walkers please do not be put off walking on this beautiful common, but please be vigilant and report anything suspicious.
Happy New Year
Jaybee & Boo the Yorkshire Terrier

WOW! Well done Sussex Police for picking up on this and dealing with it so quickly.
What a shame Lowsley Farm fields with the other incident fall within Hampshire ..... I do hope the lady whose dog was attacked there (or anyone else with information) has contacted the dog warden and Hampshire Police.
Without scaremongering, it could be your child, your dog or you next if owners cannot take proper care of their dogs and think that it doesn't matter.

- Jaybee (19th Jan 2014 - 15:10:02)
Sussex Police have informed me that Hampshire Police have followed up the incident in their area.
My dog is being seen again by our vet on Monday when we hope she is signed off.
The sad thing about this incident, in addition to her injuries, is that our dog is now apprensive when meeting other dogs. I have been walking her on the common for five years and up to this incident have only met dogs with responsible owners.
I hope to introduce her back to Lynchmere gradually.
One last appeal if you are the owner or know the owner please contact me direct, the Sussex dog warden or the police. We don't whant your dogs destroyed, only to be assessed and re-trained if neccessary
Regards
Jaybee

Re: Liphook Dog Walkers

11th February 2014 Warning - Our dog was attacked very badly this afternoon by two large Rhodesian Ridgebacks at Griggs Green, near the Deers Hut Pub and will need surgery tomorrow. Our dog tried to run away and was literally running for his life. My husband found him lying in the road near the pub in shock with terrible wounds. If our dog had been a small dog I am in no doubt it would not have survived this attack. I will be reporting this incident to the police and dog warden first thing in the morning. Whilst not wanting to sound alarmist I have grave concerns over the safety of young families out walking in the woods around the Liphook area. Unfortunately, at this time we have not been able to contact the owner to express our concerns.

Sounds horrific! And a worry for all!
Hope your dog fully recovers.
This may be a long shot but the deers Hut posted they found two dogs?
Another thought is that surely there are not to many people out there with two ridge backs? Must be a data base available of owners, rare and expensive breed.

- h (11th Feb 2014 - 21:31:28)
please could we know did you see the owners of the dogs around.? we need to know because if these dogs have gone wild they are dangerous
obviously dangerous even with an owner but more so if they have gone wild. perhaps there is another ridgeback owner who knows who they belong to?

Re: Lynchmere Common Dog Walkers
- ginny (12th Feb 2014 - 06:05:36)
Oh no, not again! I\'m running out of places I can feel safe to walk these days!. I have seen someone a few times on that common with 5 large dogs, including two ridgebacks. I don\'t want to make any false allegations, but when I see them coming, I always gather up my dog ( fortunately she stays near me and is quite small) and hastily turn the other way to avoid them as my dog is nervous and I think 5 dogs is too much for anyone to properly control. I have to point out that the dogs havent shown any aggression but were quite persistant on the first encounter in trying to reach her. My dog has a bad back and certainly wouldnt get very far if she had to \'run for her life\'.
Does anybody know if the police were able to come up with anything regarding the lynchmere or Liphook fields incidents?

Hi, I have a choc lab who is a big softy.
We have come across the lady with the two Ridgebacks on several occasions. One is quite old and the other is quite young. I have had no trouble at all... They are just big dogs and both softies... My boy (Coco) has been attacked on Longmore as was I, by a snappy sheep dog, who bit my leg as I ran by him and his owners. I was also bitten when a black and a honey lab attacked my last dog up at Iron Hill, he was also attacked by a German Shephard at Iron hill.......
