Two weeks of finishing early?
- Dawn Hoskins (15th Nov 2008 - 12:51:50)

I have just downloaded a Bohunt letter (which I had not received previously despite it’s importance).

It seems to suggest that between 24th – 28th November and 2nd – 6th March the children will be finishing school at 2.30 in the afternoon.

I’m not sure that I can have understood this correctly, as I can’t imagine the whole school has to shut early for 2 weeks to allow the teacher to talk to the child about their progress?

It seems to suggest that this is beneficial, but I can’t imagine this is beneficial to the hundreds of children who should be learning at this time but are instead hanging around Sainsburys waiting for their school bus which will still only arrive at the normal time (1 hour later).

I would appreciate it if someone who knows what is going on could fill me in as I must have misunderstood this.

Thanks.

Yes you're right Dawn this is exactly what is happening...the pupils at Bohunt finish early for 1 week in the Autumn term and 1 week in the Spring term. The idea is for them to have a mentoring session with their tutor at some point during that week.

You can choose for your child to either come home at 2.30 or stay at school until the usual kicking out time.

I'm not entirely convinced of the benefits of this...apparently the children are given extra homework to do that week so they are not wasting their time at home...but certainly last year there was little evidence of extra work being done!!!
