Marching the streets
- Tina Kortekaas (1st Jun 2004 - 12:35:29)

As most of you know we are marching the streets next week to convince the council to lower the criteria for pelican crosssings, thus making it easier for us to qualify and receive them. We know that there will be gas works, and we will try to walk around that. We will also give motorist a chance to pass wherever possible. The idea is not to spite or anger or annoy motorists, it is to proof to the council that we will not quit, until our roads are safe to cross.

If any one is interested in joining us for our children and the elderly residents sake, please let me know. There is a letter at the chip shop on Headley road if you need to get the information.

Please let me know if YOU can be relied upon.

Yours sincerely
Tina K

Hi Tina,

I'm 100% behind you in your efforts to get a pelican crossing on the Headley Road for all the reasons I've mentioned before.

However, and this is just my opinion, why don't you organise a petition? I've had a look at the HCC website (by the way it's HCC who are responsible not EHDC) and I noticed that the residents of Hook village managed to get a pelican crossing after organising one with 438 signatures. You should be able to get many more than that in Liphook - might give you a bit more clout. The English on the whole prefer to sign a piece of paper rather than march with placards!

Good Luck

Hi Eneida.

Thank you very much for the support and for the suggestion.

We did do a petition at Liphook Infant and Junior school, but to no avail. If you have seen the article in the Liphook herald 3 weeks ago, the foto was taken while two of the mothers was busy signing the petition. The responce from the council was still the same, we do not meet the criteria. We asked HCC at the meeting whether there was anything else we could do to secure a pelican crossing and their answer was that as long as we don't meet the criteria they will refuse. The only reason we are having the march is to try and force HCC to lower the criteria for the whole county. This way we might just meet the criteria.

Thank you once again for your support. I don't think I would have got myself involved with a petition if I didn't find it to be the last resort.

Yours Sincerely
Tina K
