late night kebab van
- Thea (24th Nov 2013 - 16:42:47)
There is an application for a licence to open a mobile van to serve late night refreshment in the layby down from Lloyds Bank on the Portsmouth Road. It is currently posted to the lampost near the bus stop.
The van will serve every day of the week. Sun-Thursday 23.00-23.30 and Fri-Sat 23.00-00.00.Presumably, the hours can be extended if permission is granted for the mobile premises.
I am told the applicant is the gentleman who already sells kebabs/pizzas etc from premises in the London Road. He did have a van years ago but moved into the building where he is now. (If I am wrong, please correct me.)
Anyone who wants to make a comment about this needs to do so before 7/12/2013.
You can email licensing@easthants.gov.uk
Personally, I think it will be unpleasant in all sorts of ways for neighbours living in the area, including me.

I don't recall there being any problems last time and the gentleman who ran it was lovely.

I agree, the van was there for years and was never the cause of any troubles that I can remember. Maybe Thea's issue is with the word kebab? Can I suggest the gentleman in question apply for a late night canapé van to avoid any undue prejudice.

I have spoken to East Hants and they say that the van could be there 24/7 but only needs a licence to open in the hours between 23.00 and 05.00.
So that could also cause some interesting issues with parking which is already pretty crowded during the day.
It would be helpful if we could get some clarity on what exactly is intended.
I don't like kebabs, no. This is what the gentleman sells along with pizzas and burgers.
It's not class war. Do you live along the Portsmouth Road yourself by the way?

If it is indeed the man that runs the shop, you need to ask why he needs a van 150 yards from his shop.
The reason is almost certainly that people cannot park on the road near the shop. Another reason to get rid of yellow lines through the village, otherwise he might as well shut the shop and just use the van.

The late night kebab van should be located in the Sainsbury car park, the business in the Square are already at a disadvantage due to parking, we don’t need what parking we have used 24\7 by a food van.

The Parish Council were there in numbers but could not comment due to the fact that they had not sent in the proper paper work ?
The food vender said he would be selling food with or without a late night permit….as it happens anyone can sell food on the street, but you need a permit to sell food after 11:00 at night, which we all need to have in this village. Whoop Whoop Whoop We can\'t wait for the kebab van….. Liphook deserves better, Liphook should get better!

- rita (19th Dec 2013 - 22:26:00)
what great news. being woken up by drunk people on the road where i live. not fun when you have to get up for work every day like i do. i like a kebab but just don't know why a van is needed when the shop is only a stone throw away.
all well and good making jokes about it when its not your road.

- Abdul (20th Dec 2013 - 01:09:12)
Hang about here! Back 20 years and more ago there was a kebab van exactly where this chap proposes to work from. Nobody, as I recall considered it a nuisance, and I suppose supported it to a level that was viable.
The big problem for me (personally) is this:- if said operator requires toilet facilities, what does he do? Exactly.
Never purchased anything then and would not now.
Your choice

Presume this van doesn't have a right over anyone else to be parked in the layby...
If the layby was always full of parked cars what could they do?

Re: late night kebab van
- Rachel (21st Dec 2013 - 15:05:29)
Lets not forget that the first half of this lay-by is in fact a bus stop.
I use the local mini bus and a lot of people chose to get off at this stop.
I hope it won't be parked on as then anyone useing the local bus would be forced to get off in the road.
