Liphook set sights on second derby victory
- Henry Ascoli (21st Nov 2013 - 21:42:06)

HPFL Combination Division match preview

Liphook United Reserves v Liss Athletic Reserves

A SECOND derby in seven days for the boys in blue and an ideal opportunity to kickstart a strong run of form leading into the hectic festive football season, writes Henry Ascoli.

Liphook will take to the field full of confidence and prepared for derby day, having secured their spot in the third round of the Aldershot Junior Cup with a hard-fought victory over AFC Petersfield last weekend.

By contrast, Liss make the short trip up the A3 searching for answers and desperate to return to form, following a thumping 4-0 defeat to Otterbourne Reserves on home soil last Saturday.

United manager Mark Morton is well aware of the challenge lying in wait this weekend, but believes his side will rise to the challenge: “As always, we’re looking forward to a local derby, especially on the back of two battling performances.

“We have shown that we can grit it out in tough games against Paulsgrove and Petersfield, and now we’re hoping for a chance to play more football.

“There’s a real positive vibe within the squad, with the first team flying and the reserves looking to use our games in hand to climb towards the top of the table.”
