ITV 3
- Eneida Nelson (5th Nov 2013 - 20:55:37)
For the past week we've been unable to receive ITV 3 without the picture totally breaking up and unwatchable.
Does anybody know why? We've never had any trouble with this channel (10) before.

I used to live in liphook and i had no end of trouble with my tv signal. It was predominantly all of the ITV channels - I tried everything - new tv - booster aerial, but nothing worked? I would either get no channel at all or a pixilated picture ....

Is it a modern set? I find retuning every so often cures the problems and often find a new channel as well!

There are two (or more) solutions to this problem.
Either you can post up on here and wait for the problem to go away or you can move to another platform such as FreeSat.
Most people choose the former.

We have tried re-scanning (or whatever it's called) but it didn't make any difference!!
I posted on here because I wondered if anybody else was having the same problem...
We are considering moving to Free Sat...in fact we're, hopefully, going to be moving altogether :D

It could be a Static Build-up within your Settop/Sky Box, try removing the plug from the mains for 20 seconds and plugging it back in.

I don't think it is unreasonable for people to post Freeview reception issues on here - it helps others determine whether the problem is with their own installation or just atmospheric interference. For boring reasons I have both Freeview and Freesat and whilst I agree Freesat is good, people do have a choice and may not wish for dish installation or more expensive boxes if they already have an aerial. YouView (using DTT) comes free with BT and TalkTalk and offer premium services not available on Freesat or more expensively on Sky.
It is odd if the problem is just ITV3 - all of the ITV channels and some C4 are 'bundled' together and received as one, then decoded into separate channels by your tv. As such, if ITV3 is bad, you would expect the other ITV channels to be poor too. It is either a case of re-tuning or, if the other ITVs are bad, you may need an aerial engineer. If you use YouView there is a further possible issue where the box assumes which transmitter you point to, even if that is wrong - you have to enter a postcode closer to your actual transmitter to get good reception.
| | If your aerial points towards Hannington (roughly north west) then ITV3 is bundled with the likes of 5*, 5USA and Quest. This MUX runs at half the power [25kW] of the main channel MUX's.
If your aerial points towards Midhurst (roughly south east) the same applies, ie same channels should be affected as well. Power is also half [10kW] on this MUX compared with main channels.
Assuming all associated channels are affected I would look at the aerial first - is it a new wide band one for instance ? |

I have had the same problem with freeview, always losing the picture, and other channels, I have now gone over to freesat and have no problems at all.

Seems a shame to leave Liphook just because you can't get decent reception on ITV3, Eneida.

LOL Andy!!
We're not leaving Liphook because we can't get ITV 3...although it has now miraculously reappeared...we're moving because we want to live by the sea on the IOW.
I visited it last week for the first time and found Ryde charming,,,and the bonus is that most of the inhabitants are so ancient, it made me feel quite like a teenager again :D
