Parking Charges
- Sue W (6th Oct 2008 - 18:45:26)
Now, I don't know if any one is interested - but just in case, the information contained below may save you some money.
A few weeks ago I did one of my rare shopping outings to the new Retail Park at Havant, opposite the 24hr Tesco. On parking up looked for a ticket machine, and couldn’t see one. Walking towards the shops saw a notice that explained it was only for 2hr and photographic evidence would be used.
Now I had a great deal of trouble finding a space and drove around and waited here and there for a space - so considered my time from actually PARKING. WRONG!!
I received a 'Parking Charge Notice' for £80, if paid promptly only £50. The small print had me 'Entering' at a time and 'Leaving' at another (over 2hrs). Spoke to someone at Parking Eye and asked them to provide evidence of my 'Parking time'. There was no such thing; they only accept the cameras at the exit and entrance. Therefore it is not really a 'Parking' charge.
One thing led to another, and I explained that I spent rather a long time buying and browsing that I did not take much notice of the time. She then informed me that if I produced proof of purchase from any or all the stores over £30, the fee would be wavered!. Fantastic -
The stores have set in place a section that sometimes shoppers would take longer than 2 hrs and therefore should not be charged. This information is not freely available.
I am glad that I took the time to question it, and hope that if this happens to you, the same may apply.
