Dog Stolen from outside Sainsbury's
- Debby OK (25th Oct 2013 - 13:04:11)

Dog Owners beware when leaving your dog tied up outside the shops.
I have just been to Sainsbury's and tied my little dog to the railing in the lobby, as do many people. One of the staff there advised me that yesterday a small dog / puppy was stolen from where I had left my own dog.

I hope the family that have lost their pet do get him returned.

Yes I heard about this on Facebook.

The dog wasn't that small, she looked like a staffy X or something, and she has been found. She was driven off towards Borden and she was found tied to a tree next to a lake apparantly. They know exactly who took her but it is not my place to name names as my information is second hand.

S, are you saying that your source thinks it was likely to be a personal issue between the dog owner and the dog napper rather than something dog owners in general should be concerned about?

Still a disgusting thing to do, whatever the circumstances.

Jay - no idea, my source was the Facebook post which was very widely shared before the dog was found (don't know anyone involved personally), it seemed like someone saw them drive off and they tracked them down to Borden though why anyone would take the dog just to tie it up somewhere and leave it is beyond me, so maybe it was personal.

Very strange thing to happen but also a reminder that our town isn't entirely safe from these things happening so it's best to be careful - I see a large number of shared posts regarding stolen dogs in the Hampshire area which are not resolved so quickly.

this kind of dog theft is often to try and get a breeding bitch or dog to use to churn out puppies for profit. If you have a bitch , have her spayed and on her tag ensure you put 'I am spayed'. Often with a bitch you cannot feel the spay scar so the tag message ensures that whoever stole your dog knows they have no breeding value. Obviously neutering a male makes it pretty obvious that they have no breeding value!!

if your bitch has a tag message hopefully whoever stole her would just leave her in a safe place and you will be reunited.

If you would struggle to afford the op then approach the blue cross or the dog warden for advice , many animal charities will support the neutering and spaying of dogs , particularly bull breeds who are in real crisis due to unscrupulous back yard breeders.

I have raised this tag advice on LT before but please pass on the message to dog owning friends. dog theft for a multitude of reasons is on the increase and the fate for stolen dogs is often life of misery at cruel hands.
