Liphook United v AFC Aldermaston preview
- Henry Ascoli (24th Oct 2013 - 22:09:11)

HPFL Senior League Cup
Second Round
Liphook United v AFC Aldermaston

THE boys in blue are aiming to kickstart a successful cup run with a second victory in seven days over AFC Aldermaston, writes Henry Ascoli.
United returned to winning ways in the Hampshire Premier League with a comfortable 5-1 triumph over the Berkshire side at the Recreation Ground last Saturday, as a Ryan Angear hat-trick set the hosts en route to victory.
However, the cup tie presents Aldermaston with a perfect opportunity to make amends, and the visitors’ 5-1 thumping of Upham in the opening round of this competition emphasised their attacking threat.
United launched their league cup campaign with a 5-2 triumph on the road at Michelmersh and Timsbury, but the hosts will be expected to step up a level to secure their spot in the next round.
Liphook player-manager Kevin Adair believes the league victory provides a platform for his side to gain confidence and consistency, starting with cup success on Saturday: “We’re looking forward to this cup clash after a reasonable performance last weekend. The win gives us belief that we can get a result this week in the cup, but we still need to be performing at a high level to achieve this.
“Consistency has been scarce for us thus far this season, so it will be a good chance to show we can maintain and exceed the level we reached against the same opposition in the league.”
United assistant manager Pete Oliver hopes the hosts will maintain their positive attitude from the league encounter last weekend: “We’ve a few forced changes this week, but the approach stays exactly the same. Although it’s a cup game, this is just as important as any league game in terms of building confidence and enjoying our football.”
Liphook United v AFC Aldermaston: kick-off 2.30pm, Recreation Ground.
