Passfield Store
- Dawn Hoskins (1st Oct 2008 - 09:33:52)
I am so impressed with the makeover that Passfield Store has undergone. It feels so spacious in there now.
All it needs now is customers!!
PLEASE….come and try the local produce from the deli-counter. I’m sure that most of us drive by on a regular basis, so instead of joining the soul destroying queue at Sainsburys, why not try some produce that will have your mouth watering and also a level of personal service that you just can’t beat.

Dawn,
Must agree a great store now, I use it everyday and have found at varying times there are always plenty of customers whenever I've called in.
It just shows what can be done with effort and a smile, unlike the shower up at the Co-op, won't even go near it. As for the Post Office, I go now to Bordon or Lindford its just a crying shame Passfield lost it.
I wish them success with the new look.
Regards,
Steve

good luck to the Passfield stores.
Steve, if only it was effort and a smile that created the new look - I believe rather a lot of money too. If the council donated it then all well and good, if not the loan will need to be repaid - no means an easy task. They have done well to receive the lifeline for their business and to serve the community. Many businesses could transform themselves if there was 'extra' to invest.

Oh dear, corrected again silly me not realising money was involved in the enterprise.
Let me re-word my compliment to Passfield Stores for the benefit of Sue.
Excellent store, (with the help of the loan) plus a lot of hard work but always with a smile. It makes such a change compared to others around the area.
In addition to reply to Sue, yes other businesses could change and make improvements with a cash injection but not many other businesses have had the heart ripped out of them by circumstances beyond their control.

Steve
Well you didn't let me down!!. I knew you would have a comment to make. It did cross my mind not to make the point - just to avoid one from you, but decided that I should not be put off.
LOL
The point made was in no way to belittle the achievements of the Wood family, and yes it was out of their control and very devastating, but without the EHDC funds would it have been possible?
I remember, as you would the Guards, who ran the store for many years, I am sure at times they would have loved to have done something like that, but for them the help was not there. Yes, the community needs the shop, and for that it is good. Sorry if you found my post such that sarcasm is what you came up with!!
Needless to say, there have been people over many years who ran PO all over the country, who’s been forced to close their businesses, with much hardship, heartache and financial loss. The one in Passfield is very lucky and I hope for that reason alone the Passfield community support it, after all it is for them!!.

I would like to recommend the specialist cous cous that the store is selling.
Spiced Apple. Mmmmmmmmmm
We had it last night, I cooked half the packet – but would have cooked the entire bag if I had know how delicious it was going to be.
I have never seen it anywhere else, so you’ll all just have to nip in there and get some!

I wish Passfield store success and hopefully they will carry on, but I must correct Steve Read- it was not a loan which would have to be repaid, it was Grant Money, some from Seeda and some from EHDC. Also I think working in a shop, whichever shop whether it is the Coop, Sainsbury's or Tesco's is extremely difficult when not only are you only on basic minimum wage of £5.90 per hour, one has all the late evenings to work, at the same rate of pay and associated problems with drunks wandering in the shops because they are open until late. Those assistants who work in those circumstances are obviously not going to reap the same reward as if it was one's own shop and own profit, obviously they have a different perception of their work.

I agree that many people working in shops have a tough time from SOME customers, but there are customers out there that are polite and not disruptive!
I have worked in retail for many years and now in the public sector...NHS, indeed my parents ran their own store for many years, and I always endeavour to be poilte and smile at people! There is no excuse for poor customer service. It may seem like common sense, but good customer service will help maintain a client base. There are obviously many other aspects of running a successful business that contribute to this, but a smile and a polite manner will go along way to helping customers return! I have often walked out of a shop due to poor service or rude staff, and will rarely return with my custom.
Some staff in many shops (and I'm not mentioning any shops on this thread as they all have good points) need to know that is is harder work to frown than to smile!
Smiling uses fewer muscles!
