Private Number calls
- J (9th Oct 2013 - 14:35:59)

Hello,

Has anyone else been receiving calls on their house phone by a man who is trying to sell laptops/mobile phones/ipads... all the electrical devices you can think of!?
I asked him plenty of times (difficult accent made it hard to understand him) what the company was called but I could not make out what he was saying as he just mumbled!

Yes. I had someone wanting to talk to me about my computer and my phone number is not listed. I think I made my irritation clear. It's either cold calling or a scam; just hang up!

Yes well I did tell him if he calls our house again I will call the police! its just unfair as there are people who will fall for things like this!! :(

I just received a call.

Indian sounding voice and in the background it was very noisy.

I asked where he got my number from he said - Microsoft!

I asked for the company Name - Windows DCK then for the Company registration number - then he started to get really cross - saying he was not authorised to give out registration numbers etc.

I explained that this was common knowledge and available freely so unless he did so the only conclusion I could come to was that he was a scammer and a thief - then put the phone down.

I do not believe that the Microsoft corporation would be phoning people in their homes. Windows DCK is just a file extension for your computer and thereis no such registered company.

These people are obviously working their way through our post code or something - so please make everyone aware of it.

I, too, had a call earlier today claiming to be from Microsoft. It's all a big con and you shouldn't ever think of getting into a conversation with whoever. The caller will try to indirectly take money from you. Put the 'phone down on them. Any 'phone call that I answer, the 'phone is down if a recognised voice isn't heard within just a couple of seconds.

I had one of these damn calls a year or so ago, I simply said to him "you work for Microsoft? So do I, what division do you work for?"

He rang off and I've never had another call.

I don't work for Microsoft.

I've had a very similar call recently - claiming to be from Microsoft and asking me to provide IP addresses so they could remotely install security software.

To be honest I love a good cold call, I think they are sport and a brilliant opportunity to wind up the caller!

In this case I pretended to provide the information from in front of my computer but was actually enjoying a cup of tea at the time. I made them go through the process lots of times claiming it just wasn't working, often I told them I was typing on screen and would just leave the phone down and wander into the garden.

In the end I said it wasn't working and could I call them back. They said they were calling from Harrow so I suggested I could come round to their house then. They immediately hung up!

Does anyone get the call from 'Sky' saying that your Sky Box is now out of warranty but good news they can fix that? I try and give them gushing thanks for sorting it out, saying how worried I had been, then quickly hang up before they get to the bit about wanting your bank details!

I used to get annoyed with cold calls but have turned them into pranks - don't get mad, get even!
