Liphook Cubs and leaders - 1988
- Roger Miller (7th Oct 2013 - 15:47:30)
From the Liphook Heritage Centre...
We are in possession of a photograph taken in 1988 of a group of Liphook Cubs and leaders. We have established the names of several in the photo, but would like your help in identifying the others.
The photo can be seen here - LIPHOOK CUBS 1988 [pdf]
We look forward to your help.
We also take this opportunity of reminding you that The Heritage Centre is located on the first floor of the Millennium Centre where many interesting archives and exhibits are available for viewing. The Centre is open on Mondays and Fridays from 10.00am to noon and between 2.00pm and 4.00pm on Wednesdays.

Back row, the Scout Leader - 3rd from the left is Tom Carroll. Back in those days he used to work for South Of England Caravans, behind the Jet Garage on the Portsmouth Road, as did my wife. The business has long gone. One of the other well known Liphook Scout Leaders in those days, who isn't in the photo was P.C.John Dixon who was one of the 2 local Liphook Policemen. He worked in Liphook for 25 years!

Liphook cubs started in 1972 - I was one of the early ones for a while. The leaders at that time were John Dixon, Mary West and Tom Carroll. They used to meet in the hall behind the Catholic Church in Headley Road and, if the weather was fine, we would often go out in the field next door which is now part of the bypass.
I'm pretty sure that Graham Melrose is still around - now teaching.

Have you approached the Liphook Scout Group? There will be some members that are still involved that were active members in 1988 and could remember a few names.
