Cher and Tom Jones - Tickets on Sale
- Freddie Dawkins (18th May 2004 - 20:11:04)

Tickets for the Stars in Their Eyes cabaret evening on Friday June 11, went on sale this afternoon. They are £16 each, which includes a first free drink and snacks throughout the evening.

Doors open at 7.15pm and the show starts at 8pm. Show will close at around 10.30-10.45.

This will be an unusual evening in Liphook; the Millennium Centre has never staged a cabaret evening like this before. We are setting up a stage in the centre of the hall, with tables and chairs arranged around, so it;s very much like a cabaret club and brings the audience much nearer to the performers.

Yvonne Halen will appear as Cher; Billy Lee will appear as Tom Jones; and the whole evening will be hosted by singer Dave Simpson.

Bar, with all the new beers etc, will be open all evening and idea is to run the entertainment continuously, much as if you were in a real cabaret club.

There will be a few extra surprises during the evening, so hope you'll support latest show and come along for the evening.

Tickets from the Millennium Centre (723889) or the Parish Office (722988).

Hi Freddie,

I shall be coming to your show and am looking forward to it - but what happened to Roy Orbison? I rather liked him.

By the way considering Mr. Jone's reputation, I hope the 'surprise' doesn't include ladies undergarments !!
Kathryn would be even more nervous.

Freddie singing in a thong is one of the suprises

Crikey! I go away for a few days and the messages get saucier and saucier!

Listen, if I could get a thong on my ample frame, you'd get the fright of your lives and no-one would ever come back to the Millennium Centre!!!

Only nice surprises - honest.

Keep buying those tickets.

Anyone fancy a genuine West Indian steel band and barbecue on the village green/amphitheatre area during the summer hols? Thought it might be a bit of fun for the kids and parents who aren't jetting off to the Med or Florida.

Eneida -

sorry, forgot to answer the Roy Orbison ?. The guy was booked by someone else, while I hesitated. So, sorry about that. Another time.

And I've still got the green wheelie bin. Anyone have a clue where it came from?

Just catching up on the postings here........ Steve's in particular "Freddie singing in a thong is one of the surprises".

Flip-Flops are also known as thongs in some parts of the world and I can assure you that Freddie will be neither wearing nor baring either! Sorry to disappoint. Now, what he gets up to in the privacy of his own home is another matter. Wonders ..... a caribbean holiday worth it not to spill the beans!!!

Any chance of getting someone more "contemporary"???? At the Holly Bush pub today i saw a few bands mentioned on their entertainment list, all from Liphook.

Sorry to pee on the proverbial bonfire, but the potential thought of older wimmins throwing their soiled knickers at a Tom Jones lookalike takes me to a very dark, cold place that i'd rather not spend too much time in if i'm honest...! :)

Or am i just being a utter killjoy victor meldrew type?

Alex,

I know your comment has been answered in another thread but I couldn't help thinking that "Neighbour from hell" to Victor Meldrew with nothing in between is hard to imagine.
I also feel that when you do approach the grave, it is unlikely to be tentatively with one foot.

Hello All -

Well, the show went off very well. The Cabaret Club concept worked well and the audience were brought much closer to the artistes. Cher was smashing and Tom Jones was dynamic. He charmed the Ladies of Liphook and three brave souls formed his backing group: The Sex Kittens. Maria in particular was outstanding!

But for me, the star of the night was Dave Simpson. A Yorkshireman now living in Andover, Dave has a magnificent voice and real charisma. So much so, that he agreed to come back at the end of the show and do an extra 20 minutes.

Angela and David were spot-on with the food and bar. The intermission platters of oriental kebabs and other bits and pieces were delicious.

So, here's to the next one. We looking at lots of options and already have four Hog the Limelight shows booked for the autumn/winter. I'd like to do a family fun day during August, maybe a Sunday afternoon/early evening in/on the ampitheatre/village green. Anyone got ideas?

rgds

Freddie
