TV reception
- Alan Baker (23rd Sep 2013 - 19:03:41)

Anyone else having problems tonight ?

We are pointing to Hannington not Midhurst.

Given up trying to watch stuck a blueray on

Re: TV reception
- Eneida Nelson (23rd Sep 2013 - 19:30:21)

YES...we point towards Hannington and have been having problems since 5pm approx. Reception comes and then goes again completely on all channels.

I checked with the transmitter website and they say 'there are no reported problems with Hannington'...so that shows how much they know or care about it :(

Re: TV reception

Just when you thought it was back to normal, a large chuck of channels have just disappeared.

- Ellis (24th Sep 2013 - 08:07:49)

I don't know which way we point, but we are in the maltings. We have had problems all night and into this morning. I currently have sound but no picture.
Had thought it was just our house but obviously it is a bigger problem

Re: TV reception
- Maureen Truss (24th Sep 2013 - 08:54:49)

I live out at by the Black Fox, and we are all having troubles as well. Any ideas as to how we tell someone?

Re: TV reception
- Eneida Nelson (24th Sep 2013 - 09:17:49)

You can contact the website for the Hannington transmitter to report the problem...I did this last night and the answer was that 'there were no reported problems' with the transmitter!!

It's still saying that this morning...so not a lot of use...perhaps we should all bombard the site with complaints and they may take notice...

www.ukfree.tv/txdetail.php?a=SU527568

I don't think that is an 'official' website, but it seems the problem is actually wide spread - see this - www.ukfree.tv/allcomments.php

Re: TV reception
- Maureen Truss (24th Sep 2013 - 10:08:10)

Wow, the problem was obviously huge. But I now have back my digital radio and TV, so I am happy. Thanks Ed, for the link to the website.

Re: TV reception
- JP (24th Sep 2013 - 10:24:29)

The weather conditions can cause a weak signal (Fog). I personally never had good signal here in Liphook and had FreeSat fitted by Cranleigh Aerials.

This avoids and terrestrial issues using normal aerials.

Very happy now :-)

Still suffering intermittent reception this lunchtime and my digital radio signal is also poor. BBC fairing better than commercial channels. At least the kids have no excuse not to get on with their homework!

Re: TV reception
- Sue H (24th Sep 2013 - 23:12:29)

If you have freeview, it could be that one of the local masts has been recently upgraded (or "lit up") to take 4G mobile services. Certain freeview services operate close to the same 800MHz frequency and can result in blocky or pixelated images, loss of sound or a no signal message. This only affects freeview, not cable or satellite.

Best to check if you are in an affected area by phoning the free phone heldesk nos. 0333 3131800 or 08081313800 or www.at800.tv. It's a simple fix with a free filter to attach to your aerial cable or freeview box.

Re: TV reception
- sylvia (25th Sep 2013 - 10:37:45)

Just phoned Digital UK and they said the problem with our tv reception is due to HIgh pressure over the merridian area.
so we will have to wait it out

Re: TV reception
- David W. (25th Sep 2013 - 17:59:10)

Re this reception problem, although I don't live in Liphook anymore, I get my TV from Hanninington and it is a real problem at times, with the signal coming and going and the picture 'blocking' and then going altogether.

Unfortunately, there is nothing that can be done at all. It's an atmospheric phenomena called inversion and it happens when there is high pressure, (see your barometer).

The technical explanation is something along the lines of high pressure and warmer air trapped under a much higher level of cold air and a layer then acts as a mirror and signals bounce about all over the place.

The only way around the problem is to have a satellite dish installed and buy a freesat box, which is what we did. The only time you will experience signal break up with a satellite signal in my experience is extreme weather such as torrential rain or a snowstorm.

Hope this helps someone! Freesat is good and gives you some different and extra channels over Freeview. The only downside I have spotted is that Sky News isn't on Freesat for some reason. Get your TV set up so that it works with either source being input and you have more choice and can watch it when you want despite the weather!

Re: TV reception
- Boris (26th Sep 2013 - 23:51:42)

David W.

Sky News is on freesat at channel 202.

Re: TV reception
- John Pontet (27th Sep 2013 - 20:36:48)

TV signal weak/lost in Liphook this evening (Friday) for the second time this week. This is not a home equipment problem but a Hannington transmitter problem. If you are experiencing weak/lost reception, please go to www.ukfree.tv/allcomments.php and post your comment.

Re: TV reception
- Nick Hancock (27th Sep 2013 - 21:51:14)

I've posted my comment, but does anyone read them who will actually do anything about it?

By the way, there's stuff on that site about interference from 4G masts. I can't imagine that's going to be an issue in Liphook but does anyone know anything about that?

Re: TV reception
- Graham (28th Sep 2013 - 09:22:12)

Still poor this morning - not sure how much longer they can state there is not a problem with the transmitter. I have also complained on the ukfree website - but not expecting much back!

Re: TV reception
- Sue H (28th Sep 2013 - 09:46:15)

Nick
The 4g interference won\'t affect many Freeview viewers. It all depends on proximity to the mast and whether their Freeview uses the 800mghz range which is the one that the mobile phone companies bought for millions from the govt and now use for their super fast 4g service. Basically don\'t worry about it as it\'s unlikely to affect you but if your picture/sound does go funny it is one of the options as to why. Go onto the at800 website if you want more info.

Re: TV reception
- paul (28th Sep 2013 - 11:17:21)

Hi,

Try retuning you TV, I have spoken to Freeview on the phone this morning and a retune sorted the my channels out.
If you can receive channels 1, 3, 10, 11, and 18 then all programs should be available.

Re: TV reception
- Jacqui (28th Sep 2013 - 18:00:45)

Our free view TV went off last night too. Have had no signal since. Retuning doesn't work as no signal. Any one got anymore suggestions?

Re: TV reception
- Graham P (28th Sep 2013 - 18:59:25)

Have had intermittent signal all week since about Monday. TV aerial man told me yesterday that Hannington has been problematic all week. No signal at all last night and he called this morning to inquire whether I'd had a signal last night and to tell me that Hannington had suffered a breakdown overnight. This evening the signal is fine again.

Freeview status for Hannington shows no problems so it's all a mystery!

X factor on shortly so I'm sort of hoping it'll pack up again! :-)

Re: TV reception
- Mike (28th Sep 2013 - 21:49:37)

I've said it before and I'll say it again.

I have perfect reception from FreeSat.

It really should be considered in this area.

I wish it transmitted Dave though.

Re: TV reception
- Ad (28th Sep 2013 - 22:48:57)

once again signal gone, right in the middle of a Midsomer Murder on ITV3! Especially annoying as it one I had not seen so if anybody could tell me the murderer I would very much appreciate it!

Re: TV reception
- Mandy (29th Sep 2013 - 12:16:19)

Lost TV signal last night, just in time for X Factor! Still not good this morning. Have re-tuned my TV and it seems to be working for the moment.

Re: TV reception
- Eneida (29th Sep 2013 - 16:37:59)

We lost the signal too last night...had to finish watching the programme on the computer.

This problem seems to go on and on...

Re: TV reception
- Graham P (25th Oct 2013 - 21:54:54)

Is anybody else still having problems? I have just got back from a trip and almost every channel is pixelated! I\'ve been getting this every few days for months but when it first happened this thread had just started so I assumed it was a widespread issue. I\'m now thinking I need my aerial attended to but thought I\'d ask if anybody else is seeing the same problems.

Re: TV reception
- Ian (27th Oct 2013 - 21:05:09)

Never ever had a problem with signal or pixelation on the Haslemere Road end of the village (arguably the worst ever reception on analogue aerial). If whoever put your digital aerial up didn't change your internal co-ax cable bto the new insulated type, you maybe need to re-visit that aspect of your installation.

Re: TV reception
- Graham P (1st Nov 2013 - 09:12:15)

Sorted it... After much tracing of cables and head scratching I found a signal booster being used as a splitter which on replacing with a simple line splitter has resolved my problems! Just coincidence that it first started playing up at the time others locally were suffering problems with the transmitter!

Harmony has returned!

Graham
