All these closures must be having a detrimental effect on local businesses.
What really irks me is that all that appears to be happening is the undoing of the "enhancements" that were done a few years ago. When the square was "enhanced" the centre of Liphook was closed to traffic for months - and some local businesses never recovered from it and closed shortly afterwards. What a waste of money and time that turned out to be - and now more money is being spent putting it all back to tarmac again!
I don't suppose any of the businesses can claim compensation?

I totally agree Janet. What I would like to know is exactly how much of our money is being wasted on these "essential works. We now have a pretty black tarmac road that allows cars to race through the Square and for what? And the biggest joke is they have replaced like for like so no new improvements (crosswalk on Haslemere Road) which the village needs. Such a shame and waste of our money.

Situation normal - Square closed at the weekend!
Happened to notice a couple of things this Saturday around 9am:
The sign on Longmoor Road says '"Advance notice of carriageway improvements starting and lasting for days". Well done contractors and HCC! Now we know why drivers went all the way to the "Road Closed" signs.
The workers refused to let one store receive an urgent delivery just before the road closed, saying that the store shouldn't have scheduled a delivery that day. Helpful lot, contractors and HCC.
The road was closed. Ah, but was it really? I personally saw the crew letting some people they obviously knew through, but seconds later were telling other drivers to do a u-turn. Double standards there, then.
