liphook speedway and drgster strip
- gr (11th May 2004 - 14:01:54)

Has any one visited the Liphook speedway ...or should I say the portsmouth road.

Boy racers and motorbikes are using this road as a test road to see how fast they can go
you cannot get any numbers dus to the speed they travel at .
How long before an accindent.
While waiting to pull into our drive we we overatken buy one of the above while a car was passing in the other direction!!!!!
when will the council or police stop this stupid behaviour?
I am sure most of Liphook hear the people in the early hours as they have the loudest exhaust you can have ( legal ? )

You can buy radar detectors you know. You could also set up a white transit and use a camera flash out of the back as a car goes by.

Although I have seen many young lads in their Nova's with huge exhausts racing down the Porstmouth Rd I fear there is a bigger problem which will cause an accident sooner or later. That is the people that live there who park their cars on the main road just before the petrol station. Thats not very clever is it?

Having said thatl I guess that does slow down the little boy racers a touch, or does it?

Although I hate speed cameras I do believe in having them in built up areas and the Portsmouth rd does seem a PRIME spot for one.

London Road is the same. Last night seemed to be particularly bad. Perhaps the boys in blue could set a speed camera or two up in the village and make some money. Have the road works on Headly Rd slowed the traffic down or is it my imagination!.

I have lost count of the number of times I have written to the authorities about the Motor cycle TT circuit and rally site that is Hill House Hill. I have also copied the Hampshire Constabulary in the hope that some speed checks would accompany the sparsely signposted 40mph limit but NOTHING has been done. I was advised to provide photograhic evidence of my own but this doesn't prove anything as my camera does not record speed. Besides, I haven't got time to spend all day taking photographs of the fools who endanger their lives, the lives of other motorists and pedestrians. The road should have no overtaking lines painted between liphook and passfield (even beyond) as a deterrent and speed cameras should be set up to catch the irresponsible minority.
Two weeks ago a motor cyclist was nearly killed when he ran into a stray dog whilst overtaking a car that was travelling at a safe speed. The cycle continued travelling without him, spinning, on its side before nearly colliding with the front gardens of the houses along the road.
How many more serious accidents will it take to pursuade the authorities to take some serious action!
What further action can residents take to push for this to happen?

I'd never of known Hill House Hill had a speeding problem, I'm amazed. It has two/three sharp bends and very short straights, there must be some mindless lunatics out there as there really is no where to drive fast on that road. Unfortunately we are getting into the time of the year where born again motorcyclists appear.

I for one drive the A339 Alton to Basingstoke everyday and it's sad to see at least one death a week. At this time of the year motorcyclists seem to forget the risks and concentrate on the thrills.

Steve I know the road you mean and the motorcyclists on that one do take some risks, a bit like the A272. The straight bit on Hill House Hill is often used as an overtaking zone (just out of the Hill House Stables bend), a place to open up for that brief adrenaline rush. Going North, the curve at the end is nearly blind and coming south there have been some near misses with drivers leaving the houses on the right (sounds more like an advertisement for it than a point of concern!). You are right that the road doesn't lend itself to record speeds but there are a few who like to give it a try.

Trouble is, we all want speed cameras and traffic calming in our road and our village, but hate them everywhere else.

And it's not just boy racers. This afternooon I slowed down (to 25) at the 20 zone on Longmoor Road, and a gentleman in his 50s overtook me 40 yards before the roundabout! Looked like he'd had a good lunch. At least those who careen around at 2:30 in the mormnng are probably endangering only themselves (albeit waking everyone up).

I think that the best solution is to find where the culprits live, and just before 7am on collection day, slip some non-recyclable plastic into their black bins. It sounds like this should work a treat!
