Boris Karloff and Bramshott
- Stephen Jacobs (28th Aug 2008 - 20:53:27)

Dear All,

I'm currently researching and writing a new, authorised, biography entitled 'Boris Karloff: More Than a Monster' that is due to be published next year by Tomahawk Press.

As you may be aware Karloff lived in Bramshott towards the end of his life (he died in February 1969) and I am very keen to contact anyone who knew/met him during his time in the village. I'd also like to contact any staff who knew/met him during his final days at King Edward VII Hospital in Midhurst.

Having read the thread on this site entitled 'Blimey!!' [June 07] I'd very much appreciate it if Steve Read, Dick [Karloff's newspaper boy], JM [and her sister], Liz - in fact anyone who has any true stories to tell of Boris and his wife Evelyn. While I can't promise to use them all [but I will try] I'd be very grateful for them.

I can be contacted at:
email@morethanamonster.com

Thanks very much. I look forward to hearing from you all.

Regards
Stephen Jacobs

My family and I moved to Liphook shortly after Boris Karloff died but his widow was alive and very active in village matters She supported the Carnival Committee and, I believe, that for a time she was the President of the Working Men's Club in Headley Road.

They both loved their time in Liphook, or should that be Bramshott? As you probably know, the small cottage and high walled garden occupies a curious position on what is almost a roundabout in Tunbridge Lane half way between both villages.

Good luck with the book.

Thanks, Paul

Any information about the Karloff's in Bramshott is most welcome.

Dear Stephen,
Tried your email link with some more details about the Karloffs but could not send for some reason.
Its probably me, failing that I will warm up the old pigeon, give him some more feed and chuck him out the back window. Knowing my luck he will do two circuits and fly back in through the front.

regards, Steve

Hi, Steve

I can confirm that the email address I gave does work. You should receive an alternate email address soon.
I'd be grateful if you could get in touch.

Regards
Stephen
