Dogs Mess in the park!!!!
- Lucy (26th Aug 2013 - 22:23:18)
I was absolutely disgusted this morning to find a massive dog turn in the park next to the slide which my son nearly stepped in!!!!
If you are not willing to clean up your dogs mess then you should not have one! It is not nice for other people. Its bad enough when its on the path, but in the childrens play area?? People need to have some respect!!
Rant over :-)

I couldn't agree more! Didn't think dogs were allowed in children's play areas either.

My husband walks our three dogs. He carries a spade with him and clears up all and any poo he finds! It makes him so cross that people don't clear up their dogs toilet!
Anyway, bless him, he goes around and does it for them, but shouldn't have to!

I agree with you my grandson fell in it on Sunday wish I could find out the dogs owner I would give it back to them,
put it in there garden.
Dog owners seem to think my front garden is a dog's toilet, but a child's play area is really disgusting!!!!
Perhaps dogs should be band from the recreation ground all together.
I know not all owners have bad standards.

All very true - but do we really need a new thread on this every 3 months?
| | I think the answer is yes we do. If the dog owners continue to let them foul anywhere without bagging and taking it away, then they and the Council need to be reminded regularly that it is not considered acceptable by the majority of the Liphook population. |

YES ANDY we do until some thing is done about it.
I remember reading that all dogs should be kept on a lead,
but that doesn't happen, not every body likes dogs, some adults and children are scared of them, so NO dogs in recreation ground that means NO dog mess.

Paul and Editor
I'm not saying for one minute that this isn't an important subject and shouldn't be discussed. What I am saying is that there are many existing threads that could be commented in about this, bringing them to the top page of this site again. I personally think many small threads hides the importance of the issue, people should search the site to see what has been said previously before opening a new thread.

Get a grip - why should dogs be banned? Next we'll get requests to ban teenagers having a bit of fun - because, of course, some people are scared of them.
Any punishment should be for the irresponsible dog owners - but first you have to identify them and report them. A punishment of being required to clear up the dog deposits around the village instead of a fine would make more sense to me.
And then there are the irresponsible humans (who may or may not be dog owners) who keep leaving litter behind or vandalising the area - similar punishment of litter collection or repairs to vandalised objects would be more beneficial than a fine.
Dream on ........

So much for the dog control orders which clearly cannot be enforced.

The point of a dog order Kat - which by the way seems to be enforceable in the whole of West Sussex especially on beaches, is to make people think twice before this sort of behaviour and that there is a possible punishment if someone sees the offence, it is possible that Like the smoking Ban if a member of the public remonstrated that there was an offence being committed, it would make the perpetrator less likely to just think that in a public place with children around they can just shrug their shoulders and ignore it. It is possible though that the dog mess could be foxes in the park overnight? After all they cannot read the signs!

Hey -- us foxes are cleverer than you think!
But it's dogs who poo in the playground, we just go in there at night and play on the swings.
On a serious note, while the people who leave their dog poo annoy me, the ones who annoy me more are the ones who put it in a bag and then leave the bag (often neatly knotted) by the path. Take it home or put it in the bin!
While some may think a talking fox is clever, I can confirm there is no such thing as the 'dog poo fairy' who magically is expected to pick up these bags over night and dispose of them, so please please please be responsible dog owners, pick up your dog's poo and dispose of it properly.

Just yesterday I saw two teenage girls and their dog in the children's play area at the recreation ground. It was in the evening so no young children were around.
Had I been on my own, I would have happily told them to get out of the children's area (especially as they now have the older section by Malthouse Meadows) and to take their dog with them (as well as any mess it may have left behind). However, I was with a young teenager who identified these two as Bohunt Students with a rather poor reputation. The young person I was with was fearful about reprisals when school opened next week and asked me not to speak to them so very reluctantly, I did not.
But had the school been open, I'd have been inclined to ask the school to remind its students that they have no business to be in a children's play area and absolutely no reason to take a dog there. It's a problem every school holiday and begins from the time the GCSEs and A Levels are over. There's no excuse for it and surely the teachers could say something to their students while they are still at school - yet nothing seems to be done.
Having two young children of my own who use this space, it is unacceptable the number of times I've come across dog mess and litter. Obviously, I am not criticising ALL Bohunt students or all dog owners (so please, don't get sidetracked...) I only have contempt of those who are selfish and anti-social enough not to give a flying fig about the community in which they live.
There is no excuse for leaving dog mess behind anywhere and it is just down right criminal to leave it in an area where young children run and play. This includes the rec ground in general and Radford Park too. If anyone reading this has any influence in Bohunt, please do KEEP reminding students to go elsewhere and be more responsible... For the more adult wrong-doers, I guess I'll continue to take the matter up with the relevant local authority dept when I come across dog mess and hope that something will be done eventually...

- A teacher (31st Aug 2013 - 18:42:41)
Whilst I agree with most of your comments, I do not think it is the job of the teachers to tell the children/young adults not to use a play area.
It is the job of the parents primarily, to educate their children about behaviour around the village and in society, especially in the holidays.
Teachers can back up what is taught at home, but the children ultimately are the product of their parents and the buck stops with them!

Agreed, "a teacher", one hopes that parental guidance will be offered but sadly, for these miscreants, it won't, Which is sadly why you, and other teachers, and my friends who are teachers, are (for this group) the bastions of good citizenship.
Anyway, hopefully with school opening this week, we'll see a lessening of litter around the park but what do we do with those dog owner who are old enough to be parent and grandparents and who fail to act?
On part of me would endorse a name and shame section in the local papers or even on here but I do recognise that going down that sorry path is ultimately but a few steps away from public stocks, yellow stars, and flogging.

This is an issue I feel very strongly about.
I walk around the village alot and constantly see Dog Poo on the paths.
I even saw one on the steps going up to Sainsburys.
It's simple really
Dog owners who allow their dogs to foul public paths etc should be punished by a fine and then made to clean up the Dog Poo.
They should be ashamed of themselves.

There really is an argument for zero tolerance for this. It is not a difficult thing to do, it is your choice to have a dog and you should clean up after it. Frankly Dog licences would be a good idea.....
Might solve the problems with unsuitable youths with unsuitable dogs too.....

Yes, I agree, cleaning up after your dog is a must, I have been a dog owner all my life, and in the early days you did have to have a dog licence, which you obtained from the police station, I think that this should be put back into place, that way the dog warden could check, not with the dog mess but any other problems that might arise.
