Down hill for The Links again it seems!
- Sam (23rd Aug 2013 - 18:44:31)

Visited The Links the other day for dinner and found out there has been ANOTHER change in management. I thought the refurbishment back in March was meant to be the start of the "new" Links, which seemed to be going extremely well after them re-opening. Instead, even though the pub seemed to be doing so much better than it has been for a fair few years, they decide to change things around again. Now it seems to be full of young, immature and inexperienced staff who don't seem too sure about what they're doing, including the so called new manager! Don't fix something that 'aint broken!

Am I the only one getting fed up with the local vendetta appearing on here against the Links. We went there a couple of weeks back for Sunday lunch and had a lovely meal. If you don't like the service or food then don't go back but let everyone have their own opinion rather than try and smear their reputation and close down yet another local business.

You might have gone before the recent change. Tripadvisor is of course another option for the OP.

I am a regular at the links and have been for some years. The fact that the previous manager decided to move on is not the fault of the current manager and his wife. The staff are still the same as most of them were recruited by the previous manager and in any respect they are a nice bunch of young people who work very hard. People in Liphook should support their local pubs and not use this site as a place to stab them in the back. If you have a problem then tell them face to face when you are there. That is a much more constructive way of giving feedback. If Fullers were to believe all of the grumps and groans on here they would change the management every week. Good luck to the current team at The Links.

I have personally had great service every time I have been there, yes some of the staff are young but everyone has to start somewhere. Try and remember your first job and put yourself in their shoes. At least they are working and they are always friendly (from my experience!) Support the local pubs as you would complain if they closed!!

We ate there last night and it was very nice. There was a large party going on there aswell so it was very busy, but we were served promptly and our waitress was very attentive. No complaints about them whatsoever, will definitely go again

I've eaten there a few times in the past few weeks. Food delicious, and new owner/manager made a point of coming over for a chat. Give them a chance.

We booked the large table last week for 13 of
us including children , have to say food was superb .
Children all had the children's menu which is very
good value for the size of portions they get plus a
Drink and pudding . Holly in particular was fantastic
With the children and the staff on the whole
could not do enough to ensure we had a great meal .
We could not fault our evening spent there and
We are lucky to have such a place in Liphook .

We ate at the Links last night and the standard, presentation and quantity of the food were all excellent. Our full complements go to the chefs. The waiting staff were also all extremely pleasant.

However, the Links prices put it in competition with other good, local establishments and I have to say this is where the details fall down a little.

When we arrived, our reserved table was stained and had crumbs over it. After being given our menus, we had to wait 30 – 40 minutes before our food order was taken. The meal service was also on the slow side of acceptable. Our drinks order included a bottle of Chablis which was simply poured without the opportunity to taste. Although it came with an ice bucket, no cloth was provided so the waiter dripped water all over the table. When we requested a cloth for the wine bucket, one came, but it was a clean, but very well used, tea towel. Finally, the wine vintage was 2011 and not 2009 as advertised on the wine list. Although, not being an expert, maybe our wine was better (it was charged at the same price), but who knows? Either way, surely this should have been mentioned when ordering.

We weren’t asked at any time during, or after, our meal whether everything was okay.

Finally, there were two young children, part of a party with the landlord, who were running up and down the restaurant section of the pub and in and out of the kitchen. We saw a chef return them a couple of times, but this behaviour shouldn’t have been allowed to happen, both from a health & safety perspective and from a professional one.

Sorry Links, but if you are going to charge top dollar, you need to act it. Your chefs have the talent, it’s now down to staff training and management.
