Power Cuts...GRRRR!!
- Eneida (13th Aug 2008 - 09:04:37)

So what happened yesterday.....nearly 5 hours without power and now another short one this morning...just long enough to have to reset everything again!!

It's like living in a third world country...but perhaps we are ?

It was very funny in Liphook yesterday.

No cashpoint
no tills working in the shops (or hairdressers)
Co op closed as automatic door not opening

Just makes you think how we rely on electricity for even the most basic of things.

Lucky we have a camping stove to make tea and coffee with or we would have gone thirsty as well as hungry!

I imagine that shops / pubs must have been hit badly.

I keep visualising a little Frenchman over the water flicking a switch on & off.
Next it will be a Russian turning the Gas on & off or diverting the oil.
Still look on the bright side it wont be long before the water bills start arriving. Oh nearly forgot, that little Frenchman will then have two switches to play around with.
If you get into difficulty just pop into the bank, Abbey or Alliance and Leicester and ask to speak to a Spaniard.
Theres nothing like the country being in control of itself.
In the paper the other day it stated that more people are leaving the UK than are coming in.
Says it all reallly. Good luck all!

At least the last person to leave the country won't have to remember to turn off the lights !

Since the electricity went back on our BT phone, or to be more correct the cradle that it sits in, has gone berserk!

It now emits an ear splitting shriek when you least expect it and when you ignore that it babbles away in a 'language that the strangers do not know'.

Both BT and the Electricity board have collectively shrugged their shoulders and we are faced with having to buy a replacement.

Has anyone else had this problem? Don't try phoning us as we have disconnected it prior to launching it up the garden via the patio door!

Funny that.

My broadband router was playing silly buggers aswell.

2 items connected to BT lines???????

Strange.

Hold on,
I’m just going to dial up the Stargate Atlantis team.

Could try BT of course, but that would give you less chance of getting through to a human to answer a query.

Don’t get me started on SKY broadband………

I've invested in one of these to protect the modem and phones:

url.co.uk/tbgty

also got a surge protector for the fridge freezer as during the power cuts earlier on in the year the f/freezer decided to defrost itself, which it would only do after a weekly food shop, so I lost the lot!.

[editor - be warned, if you use this to filter the phone line to your ADSL broadband modem or router it will almost certainly degrade your connection]
