Dawn,

There are other Hairdresser in Liphook that are available, try Hairlines Station Road, Eclips Midhurst Road and Route 69 Haslemere Road!. I am sure anyone of those will be willing to help you out!.

Salons sometimes close on Mondays..as they are open on Saturdays. This may be the case with Reeds.

Thanks Sue

I have had dreadful cuts at all the other salons in the village, so won't try them again. Reeds is the only one that hasn't given me cause to complain.

I find that hairdressers are very quick to give you a style that 'they like' and pay absolutely no attention whatsoever to what you have told them you want!!

Can't comment on Reeds....in fact I didn't realise they were hairdressers!...but I think Trevor at Eclips is one of the best things about Liphook and I'm a very fussy customer when it comes to hairdressers :D

Aah Dawn, but they did give you cause to complain - you couldn't get hold of anyone today....don't forget you are dealing with a small village salon here, not Trevor Sorbie or Toni & Guy. Can you forgive them for not being 100% on their communication skills if you can get a decent hair cut from them? I am sure they will be very apologetic when you do manage to track them down.

Hi Dawn,

When I moved to the area I tried all of the hairdressers and Reeds (in particular Roni) were by far the best so I have stuck with them. They are closed on Mondays, which is why you got no reply ...

I agree with you Gill,

That is what I did - try all of them and vote according to experience.

I did go to Eclipse for a while, and although he always cut very nicely, it was the cut he wanted and not the one I asked for. I have really curly hair - more curly at the front than the back, which shrinks to half the length as soon as it dries - so I always want the sides to be left very much longer than the back. I realise that on straight hair it would probably look terrible, but after walking about with this head for 40 years, I know what happens to it if it is cut too short - and it usually involves wearing a hat for about 3 weeks.

I'm sure it is hard for professionals to give you a cut - which they think will look awful. but sometimes they need to put aside their opinions and do what the customer requests.

Also, I have never been rude to them. I just don't go back.

Well Dawn all I can say is that Trevor ALWAYS cuts my hair exactly as I tell him to....and he's being doing it for nearly 7 years!

Perhaps you're too shy and retiring in making your opinions known ;)

Dawn

Well, there is something we have in commom - hair that only curls more the damper the weather! I know exactly what you are saying, but in Eclips defence I have never had ANY hairdresser spend so much time on showing me two styles in one sitting. He cut my hair on a straighter - salon style and then showed me what it would be like once I was in charge!. He went that extra for me. Unfortunately, I had to stop using them, as my work schedule didn't allow me the time, but I now use a mobile hairdresser, who is just a good.

Had an awful cut at Hairlines a few weeks ago - the older lady did my hair (Mother of the two owners I think?). I won't be going back there again in a hurry!!

There is a new guy at Reeds who has come over from Eden in Haslemere. Seems to know a lot about colouring hair so might try him?

Recently I visited Hairlines when a lady was expressing dissatisfaction. I was impressed with the professional way the staff handled the complaint. In a pleasant and polite way they explained that her poor hair condition, had been caused not by the treatment she had received but by her over use of straighteners. As a gesture of goodwill they did not charge for the work they had done.
Unfortunately she did not appear to accept their opinion.
If one seeks profession advice whether it be from a Doctor Dentist or Hairdresser and does not act on this advice "on their own head be it"

It is so upsetting when you think you have explained what you want, and come out with something you don’t expect.

It is a very good idea to get photos from magazines to take in, or ask to look at the salon’s styling magazines. You are then protected in two ways – protected from misinterpretation and protected from having to pay for poor/bad service.

Hairdressing is no different to any other service or profession. If they don’t do what you specifically ask them to do, then they have breached any contract that may have been established and you should not pay. It is nothing to do with a gesture of their goodwill – if it is indeed a breach of contract.

Whether or not you refuse to pay is a personal decision, most people are simply too embarrassed to make a fuss – and just vote with their feet (don’t go back).

If you point out that service is bad, the salon will usually offer to rectify the situation, and this should be accepted. If it is not remediable by cutting differently or changing colour etc then the breach is prima facie established and non payment should be expected by the salon. However, the only way you can establish that they have breached (did not do what was agreed), is to take in a picture of the style you are asking for and also ask them whether ‘with your hair type’ will this style end up looking similar or completely different? Or choose a colour from a swatch / shade chart that they can provide.

If you go in with a vague – “I’d like it to look a bit like this..”, or worse, “do what you think is best” then you will simply have to pay for the service provided whether or not you like it.

The answer is simple, find a stylist that cuts your hair well – and stick with them!

For such a small request this thread seems to have grown in proportion.

Dawn, you make it sound like the Customer is ALWAYS right, and believe me they are very often in the wrong, but bellow loud enough to make the supplier/service provider give into them. Of course most would air on the side of caution and good business to satisfy them, because bad publicity travels faster and wider than good!!

I will share with you one such case - and older couple came into our shop, started off with an attitude that quite frankly didnt deserve ANYONE dealing with. However, we listened to their complaint, stressed that we did not provide the particular product, but was shouted down. Gave them a credit and bid them fairwell.

On further investigation, found a pricing sticker - with someone elses business name on. My husband saw that they had gone into another shop, stopped them at the till, gave them their product and took back his money!!

I wonder how many business have lost out through this kind of 'mistake'

Re: Reeds Hairdressers

Sue
It is not really comparable.

Obviously some people are idiots and want to row with shop keepers (although unless the product is faulty there is no need to give refunds - especially if you don't want the future custom of the person being abusive towards you). However, having the wrong hair colour or a terrible haircut and the hands of a person whom owes you a duty of care is a very different kettle of fish.

Dawn
