Noisy Neighbours at 3.00am - am I wrong?
- Rob Miller (3rd Aug 2008 - 05:57:10)
Cant wait till Saturday night. It means my next door neighbours will be in from clubing at 3.00am. It wakes us up. Doors slam, shouting, colourful language and if we are really lucky..... on goes the music.
After being told to F/O this morning at 04.30 I have come to the conclusion the blame must therefore lie with me..... Sorry lads and girls next door.... Its all mine and my young families fault.
Anyone else suffering.....?

Hi Rob
Have you tried to address the problem when you have not just been woken and the revellers are less likely to be fuelled with alcohol? It may be worth approaching them to discuss an amicable solution when the atmosphere is less charged.
I'm sure we are all thoughtless at times but EVERY Saturday would seem to go beyond that.
Keeping a 'disturbance diary' may be useful if you should need to escalate your complaint.

Hi there
Do you both own your houses?
If you have a landlord you will be able to pursue it this way and you have more leverage.
If you are both private home owners it will be more difficult.

Why dont you contact environmental services. We did that and the neighbours got a letter warning them to keep down the noise after certain hours. If they persisted it could lead them getting an ASBO.
We never heard a peep out of them again and they owned their own home.

I totally sympathise, we had problem neighbours a few years ago. It became so bad we actually moved house.
In the first instance I would suggest keeping a log of all events and contact environmental health at ehdc. Also talk to other neighbours who maybe affected.
This is a good website:

Id echo Dawn's advice and find out if they are home owners or tenants. In our case we were the tenants and the problem neighbours where home owners!

My neighbours shout so loudly in the middle of the night that I can barely hear myself drilling.

A bit more seriously ....
I would agree that perhaps a chat during daylight hours might be more rewarding than one during the thick of it all. Perhaps you could explain to them that you would welcome them toning down the noise, fingers crossed they oblige at that point for you! If you have children, perhaps you could explain that your children have woken up and are upset at the noise etc etc.
If not - and a bit more devious - my sister had a similar problem with neighbours coming in late over the weekend, and firing up Playstation's etc so that my poor sister was trying to sleep while some idiiot was half-drunk in the middle of a virtual war .... My sister waited for day-break, and moved her high-end HiFi system to the adjoining wall, including putting a subwoofer directly in the (unused) chimney. She then cranked it up and left the house for the whole day.
She claims that 2 thngs happened as a result - (1) no more late night noise, and (2) neighbours never spoke to her again. Success!

Can I suggest knocking loudly on their door and talking to them about 6am the next morning, they will just be ready to have a chat about that time.
Call round for a chat or crank the music up at about that time every morning that they have disrupted your sleep.
That should sort it.
