Where does the money go?
- Dawn Hoskins (30th Jul 2008 - 12:37:45)

A previous thread prompted me to look into Government costs. These are the official figures but do not show where wasted costs are buried.

  • Social protection £169,000,000,000
  • Health £111,000,000,000
  • Education £82,000,000,000
  • Public order £33,000,000,000
  • Defence £33,000,000,000
  • Interest they owe on Debts £31,000,000,000
  • Industry, agriculture, unemployment £22,000,000,000
  • Transport £21,000,000,000

- The Arts Council spent 77,000 sending a team of artists to the North Pole to make a snowman.
- Quangos cost over 22 billion per year.
- Local government pension schemes are in deficit to the tune of 27 billion. The taxpayer will fund the difference.
- 459 books were withdrawn from the EU's Luxembourg library last year. The cost to taxpayers was 2,138 per book.
- Ken Livingstone's office cost 13.9 million to run. He had 58 media and marketing personnel!

That's one expensive Snowman, but just thing of all the benefits it gave us tax payers...!

Also, I thought to be "PC" we now have to call them Snow "people", same as gingerbread men.
