Business as usual
- Editor (7th Aug 2013 - 11:13:16)
Just a brief note to confirm that all businesses in the Square are operating as normal.
There is pedestrian access to them all.
The Midhurst Road roundabout (Sainsburys) is accessible from the Haslemere Road. Parking is available in the Midhurst Road carpark.
From the other side of the village The Royal Anchor carpark is available for people wishing to use the shops.

Hello Editor
Do you know if Sainsburys can be accessed during this time from the Headley Road? I'm finding it quite confusing what's going on.
| | It is my understand that the Square is closed from outside The Royal Anchor. So Headley Road traffic can either go down Longmoor Road or London Road. Neither allows for any easy access to Sainsburys.
Shortest route is north up A3 to A333 Hindhead, then towards Haslemere and back to Liphook (10 miles).
Alternatively south down the A3 to Ham Barn roundabout and then through Liss (12 miles + level crossing) or to A272 (16 mile trip) and then back up the old A3. When approaching Liphook turn right into Station Road and then left towards Sainsburys. |

Perhaps Sainsbury's should be offering all Liphook residents 20p off a litre of petrol for all the extra mileage we need to do during this period.

How about up the A3 to Bramshot Chase (I think), and then down Sandy Lane?
| | 7 miles but partly single track/narrow I believe. Hewshott Lane is another option at 6 miles, but nearly all single track. |

The route via Hammer is single track with passing places, coming down the hill from Woolmer Hill

Probably far easier to go to Tesco in Bordon if you are on the Headley Road side of Liphook as I am :-)

But Tesco in Bordon doesn't sell petrol...
| | Petrol station is next door and another very nearby. |

Don't try Hewshott Lane as a way around this, it has been gridlocked this afternoon with the resulting chaos!!

Clearly it is not 'Business as usual' as stated on all the boards as I am loathe to do a 16 mile detour... Can somebody tell me how I am supposed to get to the train station at Liphook in the mornings to get to work?
Is anyone paying compensation to those of us who are having to drive 32 miles a day and are unable to use out train tickets so having to buy extra ones... all because of this idiotic decision, obviously made by somebody who it does not affect, to close the entire square with no thought to either residents or neighbouring commuters?
This has got to be the worst council decision to date and a real slap in the face to their voters!

A bit puzzled as to where you are driving to that you need to buy extra train tickets? - if you are traveling towards London, join the train at Haslemere, if travelling towards Portsmouth join the train at Liss, either way no need to buy an additional ticket, your ticket from Liphook is valid from either Haslemere travelling North or Liss going South.
Agreed though the roadworks are a bit of a nightmare, but at least they are largely being done over the school holidays when traffic is a bit lighter.

How much does eight weeks of road works cost us? We the tax payer are paying for these “must be done road works” How much all in? £200,000 or £500,000 could be £ 1,000,000 or more ?
Would be nice to know. Anyone……County Council ....District Council...anyone?

Hear say informed me roads are being upgraded with money from the bypass, I can't substantiate it though.
Fab that it's being done but it does seem to highlight the over-dependence on The Square. Awareness of this I believe is good in all planning decisions.

" Hear say informed me roads are being upgraded with money from the bypass, I can't substantiate it though" Can I quote you then.....we (the tax payer) pay for all road works, bypass or like for like improvments we pay for them...exactly how much none of us knows...but nothing is for free
