Letter about parking
- A. Ryan (3rd Aug 2013 - 12:51:54)

Has any body around Liphook had a letter from EHDC about parking on verges?
We occasionally (mostly at night ) have to park off the road of a single track lane as we only have space for two vehicles. Now one of our kids is driving we have three vehicles.
The area we park in has been used by two of the houses for we believe over fifty years, as originally you could not park in front of the houses.
Any body visiting, delivering , including certain companies have to park there, as there is nowhere else.
The council say they maintain the verge, but in the last fifty years it has never been maintained. Photographic evidence over the years can prove it. The area ideally should not be maintained due to possible dangers to people and mostly children. As parking there does not affect any road user I am rather perplexed as to why we have been told not to park there
As the house next door to us is up for sale the unsuspecting buyer will be faced with this problem
I know of other areas in Liphook that have similar predicaments, and wondered if they had been sent letters or whether we have been singled out.
I have asked for someone from the highways to come and meet me at my home, as it would be interesting to see where they plan to park. As of yet no joy.
Could this be a ploy to get more monies in fines? or something else?
I have said that the press might be interested to see the area and to see what they make of it.

Just a thought, the grass cutting I believe has been outsourced by the council and because the verges have just been cut at our end of liphook maybe they've been to cut your verges and were unable to get to them because of cars and just to cover themselves they have report any area they haven't cut.

We have no proper grass, only brambles and weeds and no grass has ever been laid as it is a rural lane. We have been here ten years and previous families before us parked there. As said for over fifty years Only yesterday a car had to be parked there to go and view the next door property for sale.
Any car parked there is not hindering traffic as HGV's are not supposed to use the lane, but some do and they have never had a problem passing a parked vehicle.

Is the road 'unadopted' or maintained?
This will make a difference.

If unadopted then they can't tell you to do anything.

If it is adopted they can tell you not to park if they have implemented no parking zones - such as yellow lines etc.

I wonder what they think the penalty is going to be regarding enforcement if there is a historic use going back all these years??

As if the roadworks in the Square and in Headley Road were not enough, how is it that often two and sometimes three vehicles are parked on the pavement outside Madhurban 2?

If, as I suspect, one of the vehicles is used by a delivery driver for the take-away, why don't they use the small car park at the rear of the business?

I note that they are advertising for another delivery driver on this site. Does this mean yet another vehicle parked up on the pavement?

I would assume the road was adopted by the highways as they have been attempting to maintain the tarmac,(fighting a losing battle there). I have tried to check but not sure where to look. I have been on the EHDC to look but no joy.
As for yellow lines, no there are none and if there were it
would be out of keeping to the character of the lane.
Again, people visiting the house for sale next door have had to park there. This really is ridiculous situation and could stop any sale of the property.
I am still waiting for EHDC to get back to me, as to the real reasons for this, but I am still waiting.

Apparently Madhuban doesn't have access to the car park behind as it belongs to someone else, and the electrical shop next door has a sign out the front during the day for customer car parking so I presume cars are permitted to park there.
