Guitar Lessons in Liphook Area
- Louis and Will (31st Jul 2013 - 15:29:17)
Hi there, we are 19 years old and are hoping to be giving some guitar lessons in and around the Liphook area. £12 an hour we will teach you right from the very basics of guitar whether its electric or acoustic you want to play. Either Louis or Will would be teaching your or your son/daughter who ever wants to play, just send an email to hampshireguitarlessons@live.co.uk if you are interested...we hope you are!
Thanks and we hope to hear from you soon

You don't say whether you have had yourselves CRB checked which I think would be important if you plan to give lessons to children.

Safeguarding is very important but REALLY?!
Do you even know anything about what you are saying?
There isn't 'CRB' now, it is a DBS check (that's Disclosure and Barring Service) and it is done by an employer of a person in an eligible role. Yes, working with children or vulnerable adults. Volunteer groups / organisations can also apply for a check on volunteers.
BUT....
A PERSON CAN NOT APPLY TO CHECK THEMSELVES
Also, the check is only as good as the day it is done. So whilst it is a very important part of safeguarding and the recruitment process, it's not everything.
I am a parent of a teenager and if there were going to take up music lessons, with, lets face it a 19 year old trying to make a little cash, I would be far more concerned about meeting them, being close by whilst the lesson was taking place (i.e. in the next room with the door open, so I know what is going on but that they have the 'space' to do a lesson.
Otherwise, use a music school with employed staff that will have undergone checks. Oh who whilst there may have spent time grooming kids and staff alike to get away with goodness knows what, yes, I see the news too.
Parents, look after your kids, do what you can but don't put all your faith in a CRB (just to be clear, that's now DBS) check!
Can we get back to the thread now?

CRB/DBS checks only proves that you haven't been caught yet... A very cynical view perhaps. But J Saville springs to mind here. I bet he would have passed. I don't know the answer to this conundrum, but I expect it may lie in having parents engaged with their child activities so they know what is going on and don't merely say "It will be all right, they are CRB checked!" (Wait for the trolls at this point)

Sup guys, to be fair we are 19 and just wanna help teach people play guitar. I dont know how Jimmy Saville etc has come in to this. We are not "CRB checked" just normal dudes who wanna teach some guitar...think you need to chill a little bit and dont be so paranoid about everything haha.

I think children would prefer someone of this age teaching them the guitar. They have only just become adults so kids would have more of an affinity with them.
Good on you both and I hope you find plenty of people to teach.
There will always be those who are sceptical about motives, just ignore it.
