Help Re Wasps Nest Please
- Eneida (30th Jun 2008 - 22:28:20)

I've just discovered that I've got a wasps nest in a very unfortunate position....and I'm quite worried about it !!

Does anybody know if the Council still offer a service or if there is a local pest exterminator I can contact ?

Thanks,

Eneida

Eneida !
Ants in pants, now wasps in embarrassing places!!! Methinks you tease. However, having been host to the same many times over the years, let me advise you thus. Phone the council, tell them you are playing host to some of their wasps, and ask them to come and take them back. If they say that it ain't their responsibility, ask them to temporarily re-house you whilst you get a private contractor in to do their job. Accommodation at, say, Old Thorns would cost them £150 ish a night and should concentrate their attentions.

Tim Hubbard at Pestbusters, Milland will be happy to rid you of the problem (at no mean expense) if you prefer to go that way, though.

There are powders available that work pretty well e.g Rentokil wasp killer:-

Where the nest is in a bush or similar position, puff the dust thoroughly and swiftly into the hole and around the entrance. This should be done in the late evening when most of the Wasps have returned to the nest. Advise visitors to move away from the treated area as soon as possible. Eggs may be present so a second treatment may be necessary.

You should not need to go to the expense of getting the council in.

Thank you for your replies.

No, this isn't a joke!!! ....the nest is in a hollow, cladded wall right by my patio....where I like to sit and enjoy a glass of wine in the evening sans wasps :D

Anyway Tim will be dealing with them tomorrow....
