Coffee shop
- carla (24th Jul 2013 13:29:43)
Hi
I am a resident of Bramshott and since living here would love a place to go for an early morning coffee(not starbucks at the old thorns)
I am thinking of setting up a coffe shop to cater for early morning commuters, local groups to sit and have a coffee or just the mums out there who want a good old chat after doing the school run. and a few other ideas.
Would this be something people would want. any feedback would be much appreciated. I understand Daisy's tea room is in the village but my idea would not be competition as our focus would be beverages and takeaway lunch for children/ workers

Ignoring the big corporates (i.e. Sainsburys) you will be in competition with Daisy's, Shankly's, the bakers and the mobile coffee stall at Liphook Station. But if you like a challenge - good luck!

Hi,
I'm a mum new to the area and would love somewhere where i could meet up with the other mums. I think a place with parking would be great and a door wide enough to fit double buggys please!
If you do decide to go for it, I wish you the very best of luck!

Go for it! Fantastic idea! There isn't anywhere really that you can go and sit with friends apart from daisy's (which I've never used). Sainsbury's is ok but simply because there is no competition. I think you would and could achieve a roaring trade. Look at the amount of coffee shops in haslemere. Barista for example do NCT groups for mums with little ones, and with my children at school I'd love to have somewhere to go with mummy friends. Really good luck!

did you have premises in mind? parking is an issue and somewhere with enough space to sit outside on a nice day would be good!

PLEASE try this! I moved from Haslemere to Liphook 2yrs ago and do miss being able to walk and meet friends for a coffee.
Love Daisy\\\'s but it does close quite early and bit small to meet a bunch of friends.
Always thought Carpet Baggers would make a great coffee shop.. Parking, space to accommodate all clientele.
I think Liphook is crying out for such a place and I would def support, as I know many of my friends here would too.
Good luck!

Thank you all for your feedback. This is something that I am definately looking into, hopefully sooner rather than later.
H - good point about the outside seating area which would be a bonus but not sure of any premises in Liphook that could offer that, but I will look into this.
I have taken all you points onboard and thank you again you have given me a challenge to taken on

Hi
A coffee shop would be really great. One with character and style.Perhaps Parisian chairs and tables lined on a terrace/walkway.
Good European coffee's and delicious cakes etc.
We will support this idea.
Kind Regards
Basil and Denise Briolas

Might be worth catching up with the other discussion on Talkback about empty shop premises in Liphook - see if there's any common interest with the people looking into that.

A coffee shop that also sold cakes from the bakery! Yum.
I don't think Shankleys would be very happy at that though if it was in the same area of the village.
I love the idea of a community shop I'd help out.

The other half and I have talked about this quite a lot. My daughter is a keen baker and hopes to work in patisserie and confectionery when she's older (at 15, a perfect candidate as a part time waitress for you??) Shankleys do the best breakfast and I've never stopped at Daisy's but we were talking about somewhere for mums after the school runs to take their pre-school kids, with comfy sofas and a little toy area etc. pipe dream for us, but hopefully a reality for you.

Growing up in Liphook in the 80's I, and no doubt others on here, remember a cafe down near the station called Shucks. This was popular with people who wanted to drop in for a chat during the day.
Shucks used to open until 10pm during the evening which also made it popular with the kids who didn't necessarily want the cliché of a youth club but wanted to socialise with their mates.
They did a very good trade and as a business model I could see this working.

The Cookie Bar in Hindhead is a fantastic place to get inspiration from - its beautiful inside and has a simple menu that is fantastically executed (obviously the cookies are amazing too!). Go take a look and have a cuppa! I wish there were one in Liphook :)
The other thing I would ask is that you stick to your opening times... there have been a number of times I've wanted to pop into Daisy's at the weekend for lunch but its shut even though its still within the advertised hours. I have to say I don't even bother trying now and will head to Starbucks instead.
Somewhere open in the evening might also be a plus especially for younger people who might not have anywhere to hang out. You could also offer it to societies/clubs as a meeting place if they eat/drink there!
Good luck and if you do open, I'll pop in for a drink.

Thank you all so much for your feedback, this has definitely turned from a what if to a reality and I will be looking into this in great depth. When this happens please come and say hi and let me thank you all for taking the time to respond.
My opening time will be stated and remain that so you can guarantee I'll always be there. 20 years in customer service I understand what a customer wants and need to listen

I think this is a wonderful idea and wish you all the very best with it. As the deputy manager of one of the village nursery schools I'm sure the Mums would welcome somewhere to meet up. On a personal note, however, it would be fantastic if it was wheelchair accessible as my Dad is in a wheelchair and unable to get in to Shankleys or Daisy's. It would be fab to have somewhere to have a cuppa and a piece of cake together.
Best of luck

Mums!! What about us Dads! We too are caffeine junkies! I would certainly support this! I often have my little one early mornings and would love to find somewhere to sit and have a chat (gurgle) with my son over a cup a joe! Excellent idea!

Britain has yet to have its real coffee epiphany like many other countries. A quality coffee shop is a mecca for many people. I cannot commend the idea enough. I can think of many people locally who would come through your doors.
As a trained barista and coffee roaster myself though, quality is the key! If you want any help on those fronts, let me know!

Hi,
Likes many on here have said, I too have thought this would be a good idea and did look into it quite seriously for a while, but I have started a pottery painting studio instead and couldn\'t do both. I think Liphook needs some new businesses as it is a thriving village and we all have to travel to Haslemere or Starbucks when it would be brilliant if we had somewhere to walk to. I personally like shankleys and Daisy\'s seems nice too but are very different types of establishments to the one you are describing and clearly what people in village would like to see. Remember it is not just Liphook but the small hamlets surrounding it I.e Passfield, Rake etc. I am happy to help you out in anyway I can so please email sarah@paintpotsandparties.com if I can be of any assistance or you would like to talk through any ideas or for moral support!! Good luck!

Re: Coffee shop (Daisy's)
- Michelle cox (15th Sep 2013 07:36:45)
Hello Everyone
I am taking over Daisy's today and will be closed next week opening on the 23rd but want everyone to know that it is going to be open all the time no Radom days of closing. Monday - Saturday 9-4 but looking to extend my hours as I can see that is important to everyone and I want what you want. About the parking I no it's not ideal but there are places to park very close and it's worth the walk for some delicious food :).
Also I would be looking to open as a bistro 1 day a month maybe more if this is something people would be interested in ???
I want to know what you want and how I can make this business better so pleas get in contact with me.

We would be interested in lunch deliveries...if that's in your plan? Also would be interested in takeaway dinners....
It may be too soon for you to decide - but if enough people are interested, you may consider branching out.
Best of luck with your new business.

Re: Coffee shop
- anon (25th Sep 2013 15:48:18)
the main point is the early morning school run issue. Hanging around from 8:30amdop off to wait for the shop to open is not viable. Dont want to sit in asuptermatket or a greasy spoon - so still no opportunity for school run mums in the morning.

Just popped in to the new Daisy's for a coffee. Love the new look and glad you have got rid of the clutter! Just had a capuccino but very tasty. The cafe opens at 8.00am so you won't have to hang around after the school drop off. Give it a try as the breakfasts sound great.
