attempted child abduction
- wendy (22nd Jul 2013 - 15:03:30)
My friends daughter (12 years old) was approached by a man in a white van today, along Portsmouth road, who attempted to get her into his van. Police say that there has been many reports of what appears to be the same man in this area.
Please tell your children to go around in groups and tell them of the danger to keep them safe.

So are the police doing anything about this. If so I haven't seen much of a police presence in the village?

This is awful especially with the holidays coming up, but I'm sure if everyone talks to their children so they know exactly what to do if the situation arises. Hopefully he will be picked up soon, and thank god he didn't manage to get her in his van

This sounds very serious to me - I live on the Portmouth road and have a six year old girl. Surely if this has happened many times already it should be a matter of top priority to stop him before he is successful??

We have received a report of a suspicious incident involving a 12-year-old girl who has reported that she was spoken to by an unknown man driving a white van as she walked along Portsmouth Road in Liphook.
The incident occurred just before midday on Monday, July 22 and was reported to police by the girl's mother.
The man did not get out of his van and made no attempt to grab the girl and after she ran off he drove away. She was not harmed at all but was frightened by the incident. Officers will be speaking to her along with her mother to establish the circumstances as we do take all reports of this nature seriously.
It is easy for information to be exaggerated and very quickly become inaccurate when posted on social networking sites, so please be reassured that if there is a genuine concern for the safety of children in any area, people living in that community would be informed by police officers.
We also often work with schools and other local groups to ensure the most accurate information is passed on to parents.
If you have any concerns you can always speak to a member of your local Safer Neighbourhoods Team by calling 101. | |
