A Migrant Visitor
- Paul Robinson (22nd Apr 2004 - 19:28:34)

To the Editor

Letters Column.

Sir

Spotted this evening perched on one of the pavement bollards in Liphook Square, a rare migrant visitor 'A Traffic Warden'. It's full spring plumage glinting in the late afternoon sun and it's chest puffed importantly as her personal radio issued the characteristic 'squawk'

Her beady feral eye darted from kerb to kerb and alighted on the uncommon sight of the unoccupied layby
outside the cycle shop garlanded by the rarely observed yellow lines.

Is this a rare sighting or has this species colonised this benighted location?

Is this a case for Bill Oddie?

I saw one today also (beautiful plumage), the real worry is I thought my sighting was male.

Further examination of the previous post puzzles me. What on earth is the lay-by for? It sort of invites drivers to rest there, yet once in it appears it may be a trap. Up to now the said drivers appear to have escaped but maybe the vultures are now hovering.
As revenue collection seems to be the police prioity these days we expect this to be followed rapidly with speed cameras in the square. So that the real villains of Liphook can at last be brought to book.

Joking aside, I personally think that its a good idea to stop people parking in a Loading/unloading bay and/or Bus stop, on the zig zag line outside Hampshires, it might even speed up the traffic flow in the village.
It sometimes looks like a competition to see just how many cars (pointing in all directions) it can accommodate. It should make it easier and safer to cross the road too.

Lets face it - its not that difficult to park in the village, even if you do have to walk for a few minutes, is that a great problem. Anyone who says it is is talking a load of old shoemakers.

Good luck to the person who has the job, nick them all!.

Incidentally, the council paid a lot of money to have the square paved (done up), for the benefit of those of us in the village, not for some twonk to park their car on it!.

Oh my god, I saw him/her too. This blimmin police force, government really are money grabbing bandits aren't they?

Some of the old people that stop their cars outside the chemist to save crossing a busy road may park badly but for gods sake don't give the poor old soles a ticket for their troubles. Unbelieveable, whatever next?

Speed cameras on all roads in the village? Specs cameras?
