Business Rates 'Specialists'

Hello,
Does anyone have any experience that they would be willing to share on successfully using one of the myriad business rates specialists to appeal rateable value? Have been advised to use only companies registered with RICS or IRRV, which is fair enough, but would prefer to approach someone with proven track record. Conversely, any advice on whom NOT to use?
Have obtained forms to self-appeal but so complicated I believe the application would certainly fail.
Any comments would be welcome, thank you in advance.
