Cat Poo
- Elsie (21st Jul 2013 - 10:36:41)
I have a problem with my neighbours cats, they seem to think my back garden is a litter tray! I have a dog But that doesn't deter them. I have small children that use the garden everyday so before they can enter the garden I have to clean up at least 4 different cats s***. I know cats are different to dogs but can you imagine the up roar it would cause if every dog owner allowed there dog to do the toilet in the neighbours garden.
Is there any safe way to stop them using my garden as a litter tray?
I have so far tried, my dog, a ultra electronic thing that makes a noise and some green things that you sprinkle around the garden but all have failed.

A rather extreme cure but investing in your own cat should do the trick.

I have seen things at garden centres but could be the "green sprinkles" you refer to. Obviously has to be safe for your family as well.
I have cats and if they were causing my neighbours a problem I would be happy if they told me and said that they were going to use small water pistols on my cats to deter them entering the garden in the first place. It's what the vet advised us to do to a cat that was terrorising our pets. I don't think the small water pistols would do the cats harm, just let them know they are not welcome.
To preserve good relations with your neighbours I would let them know the reasons why or they might take offence.
Cats normally bury their waste - are you sure it's not foxes?

I have the same problem I have to check before my grandchildren can go out to play, best thing I have tried so far is holly where the cats poo don't seem to like it very much.

A good cat repellent can be made at home by boiling the juice of a lemon plus the peel, in water, for about 15 minutes and then decanting it into a spray bottle when cool. Regularly spray all round your garden and it should keep the cats away as they hate citrus smells.
Getting your own cat, as somebody else said, should also do the trick and it will probably go and poo next door... :D
