sorry, but I am not reading this very well.
Do you need a child minder, someone to look after animals or a house sitter?
The qualifications for each are very different.

Not sure I'd leave my pets with any old one never mind my kids.

Make sure you get a DBS check done if childcare is involved. Better still use an agency who can supply you with checked references as well as a DBS.

Alternatively ask family or friends to help or ask yourself do I really need to go away!!

Are you sure you'd be happy to leave a 7yr old child with a stranger, security checked or not?
Would you not consider taking yr child with you if you must go away?

I think every one is being rather harsh here. We do not know the circumstances of the trip that needs to be taken, or whether there is a family to help out. I am sure whomever made contact would be vetted by the family to make sure all is above board.
Yes, it is a little bit of an unusual request, but as usual the same old people are quick on the draw to make negative comments. I am sure there are some people out there that would love to help out. Not everyone has evil intentions.

Mel please reassure us that you have a genuine reason for leaving your child - I think like me all the parents (and anyone sensible) is looking open mouthed in horror at your post hoping its not just because you're off on a jolly to Spain! I'd struggle to leave my 17 year old with a stranger qualified/certificated or not

I think Dawns reply is perfectly valid. The request is for a house sitter to look after a house from 3pm to 9am, and then at the end of the post a 7-year old child is mentioned as an after thought!! Very strange. This should be a request for a nanny...

My comments aren't meant to be negative. I'm just expressing concern about the child involved. At the young age of only 7 being left with a stranger for five days would be a very daunting experience.
I just feel that asking for help in the playground, as opposed to liphook talkback, may end in a more suitable arrangement for all.

Mel might just have been offering the opportunity of work to someone local in the first instance, which I think is commendable.
Nothing to say that the usual checks would NOT be carried out and references required.

Sorry but I think some people are over reacting a little to my request.
This isn't London but Liphook.
I have already put out word of mouth, but it was suggested that i post here as well for expedience.
Ideally a student who is looking to make some extra money before going varsity in October.
This isn't a request for a rocket scientist, just someone who has a degree of sense and some time availability and would appreciate some extra pocket money. The situation is not isolated and there will be plenty of support.

Have you considered asking one of the childs friends mum to take him in for the week, kennels for the dog, a feeding bloke for the fish and letting the house take care of itself.

It can be just as risky leaving a child with someone they know/ just have to think of recent cases and it is not stranger danger the danger is from someone trusted. Crb checks are a bit useless also, as someone could have a crb check done last week, pass, and still commit a crime this week?

This is my take on it, if you had £1 million pounds and had to go away for a week would you put a post on the local website and ask if somebody would like to earn a little extra money for look after it for you? I think not!

Oh dear D, You have such a bleak outlook on the human race. Maybe we should totally ignore posts advertising baby sitters , dog walkers , house sitters, maybe.... Plumbers ,electricians, painters, what about teachers , doctors, oh the list could go on that might have contact with children. Your mind must work on the premise that you would more than likely take the million pounds. As the person who posted said this was one of many enquiries , and is probably regretting it now as to post on here usually follows with negative comments.

The way some people are repling to this post is pathectic, dont you people have lifes to live? Same people leaving negative comments on most post. Is this all you people do, sit behind your keyboards/smart phones and slate almost anybody for incorrect grammar/ help or someone looking for work. What kind of peole are you? The lady was only looking for help, give the lady a break. There is not many comments on here that don't result in negative replies. I'll sit and await the many replies to my message.

In reply to Annie - oh dear you sound like you've been really saving up that reply and have just trotted it out on the end of any old post! I cannot see anyone mentioning incorrect grammar etc in this post. I cannot see that anyone has been mean, nasty or negative.
What I can see and what I am heartened by is that people have shown CONCERN over the welfare of a young child. Sadly in our busy lives people look the other way and as a teacher I know dreadful things go on that are truly heartbreaking - yes amazingly in leafy old Hampshire!
Mel did not explain well in her original post hence why our heads rose up in CONCERN. She did then reassure us that support is in place - all well and good.
If you read the first post and did not feel any CONCERN then I'm sad for you.
Please try to let others have an opinion of their own.
