Sign post at Passfield junction
- dawn hoskins (12th May 2008 - 17:05:27)

Does anyone know how the road sign at Passfield got demolished?

It has been like it for a week or so with no sign of being made safe – (it’s got bits dropping off!)

Seeing as it is the makeshift memorial of Miss France who was killed there, it looks dreadful to see her plants and candles next to a decimated sign post.

I suppose it was either an out of control vehicle at the junction or a lorry using the lay-by?

Either of the two highlight the problem here (an unkempt, yet heavily used, lay-by and an unsafe junction which despite a lot of hoohaa remains unsafe with no provision in sight to change the fact).

New signs, as part of the improvement project, are now on order I believe.
It is a frustratingly slow process.

any news yet?

It's in the hands of Hampshire County Council. The signs have been ordered but when the new footpath was built along the b3004, the signs were included as part of that improvement project so I,like everyone else, am frustrated at the length of time is taking to get the job done.

Don't suppose there is any news regarding replacing the 50mph signs with 40mph signs? That would also (probably) have some impact on safety as there seems little point in asking drivers to be careful when they have been invited some 800 yards or so back to race through the junction at 50mph.

Yes, HCC have made proposals for new speed limits on the following roads:

Headley Road-40mph (passfield straight passed the junction)
Passfield Road-30mph
Hollywater Road-40mph (approaching the junction)

Thanks Nikki, for all your hard work.
I know that the most simple of things can take mamouth effort when red tape has to be fought through!!!

The work men even saved the memorial plants and things.

I have re-read the minutes of the PCS meeting as per the link above. Speed signpost changes have occured on the Hollywater road; the approach to and through Lindford village is finally a 30mph limit. but I can't see any changes on the main B3004 where you can still fly past the junction opposite Passfield Stores at 50+. I have wriiten to the Highways department again but have not yet received a reply. Was this never going to change? I am referring to that straight stretch of road after Hill House Hill through Passfield; whatever it is called it needs a change.
