CCTV
- thea (31st May 2013 - 19:33:07)
I lost my bag this afternoon (Friday 31st May) when parked outside Chamberlains Music shop on Weyhill at around 4pm. The CCTV at Chamberlains just covers the pavement and doesn't cover the road which the car was driving up (towards the station) when the delightful young men leaned in and snatched my bag. I was trying to put my daughter into her seat belt at the time.
If anyone knows if CCTV covers the street, or if a shop has any coverage from around that time, I would gladly go and view.
The police say that they have no positive leads as yet but I would love to help nail these guys.

Thea,
I had a similar thing happen to me a couple of years back. I had my son in a buggy, and he managed to escape. Needless to say I left my bag and everything with the buggy and went after my son. Some one took this as a chance to take my purse, and before chip and pin, use my signature to have a spending spree of £30 in an Unwins store...
I had more than £30 in my account, and the fact that they went to the trouble of stealing my card for booze and cigarettes, really wound me up!
I saw my purse and cards again, when about 4 months later,a police officer bought the purse to me.Somebody had handed it in,covered in mud.It had been used and discarded at the time, yet an honest person found it, gave it to the police and it was traced to me.
The problem we face is this, if MI5 can bugger up on such an epic scale(Lee Rigby) then how on earth are we to contend with petty crime? I wouldnt hold out for an outcome for these scumbags if I were you.
Only consolation is, at least they dont have your pin and that signature is not done anymore. I sympathise with the inconvenience of it all. I hope the losers either get caught, or have a very bad, ill night at your expense.

Thanks Lily. The real irony was that I had the money in my purse to pay the guys who were going to replace the roof that was nicked off my roof five weeks ago.
I had just taken it out of the bank. That is obviously on hold for now.
I can just imagine the champagne party that was held last night somewhere. Oh, and because my passport was in my bag, my planned holiday looks like not happening either.
Crime is really affecting me and my family right now.

Dear Thea
So sorry to hear what has happened to you. Did you, by chance, take the money out of a bank in Wey Hill also? Just wondering if you could have been observed and if the Bank have any CCTV coverage?
I think these stories also serve as a warning to us in Liphook and the surrounding areas that we cannot afford to be complacent (and I know I am guilty).
I heard the other night that someone tried to break into a house in Greenfield Close via the back garden which backs onto the horse's field opposite Radford Park.
Perhaps we should look at more neighbourhood watch schemes?
Thankfully in all of these incidents it has just been belongings that were taken and no-one physically harmed - psychological damage is another matter.

Looking like an inside job Thea. It is very bad luck you are having. Maybe someone knows your movements and situation.Just a thought of course...
Still, whichever scenario,I hope these parasites are bought to justice.

It also highlights the dangers of paying tradespeople in large amounts of cash? Why not pay them by cheque for an obviously large amount? Or direct to their bank account?

Hi Barbara
The tradespeople asked me to pay them in cash. I believe that is still legal.

Taken from the YOU GOV website "Those who receive payments in cash are legally obliged to disclose the amount to HMRC"
This is also important for VAT purposes. It is surely safer for you to pay into a bank account? Unless you can claim on your insurance for the loss?
