Seeking lightweight, adult, folding wheelchair loan
- Jan (29th May 2013 - 13:59:18)

It's a big ask, but I could really do with loaning a folding (to go in a car/train) adult lightweight wheelchair - if anyone has one, I'm willing to pay a fair hire fee., I've damaged the ligaments in my knee and would like to attend a wedding that we already have train tickets to travel attend, however, we know I'll stuggle to get from here to Waterloo, then via tube to Euston for the onward journey, when all I have is a crutch!
I'm aware that Red Cross do loans, but only with a GP's letter... and that you can hire them privately for next day delivery, but they have a minimum hire time, and I only need for this weekend..
Any help advice? We can collect and return to suit. Many thanks, Jan.

Try the Peak Centre, Midhurst Road, they have some disability aids they lend out,

Thanks

Katy

I borrowed one for my visiting mum from Godalming Red Cross a couple of years back, when she had suffered a fall. They were very helpful. No doctors note, time constraint etc, just a donation at your discretion.

Really recommend giving them a call if no luck with Peak Centre.

I phoned the Day Centre and they were so very kind on the 'phone - I've arranged to call and see them and they feel sure they can help me with a wheelchair loan, just requested a donation, which I'm more than happy to do.
Thanks to Katy and Carol for taking the time to respond to my plea, all this has kept my faith in human kindness :-)
Looks like I will be going to the wedding, I may not be dancing, but there will be good times!

We have one that you can borrow as long as the dates don't clash with our need of it, mainly the first half of August. Give me a ring on 01428 723887. It folds up into a bag for carrying in cars etc. Needs a reasonably strong pusher as not self propelling.

We hired a folding wheelchair from the Red Cross for my Mum last year. She can walk a bit but we were taking her to the Olympics- not competing (!). No doctors note or contribution needed, but donation at discretion as someone has mentioned. Only downside is that we had to pick up from Winchester due, I think, to lack of local availability at the time. Very helpful and straightforward.

Many thanks to all for kindly responding., especially to Shirley for your very kind offer! - I'm very happy to say that the Manager at Liphook Day Centre has most kindly loaned a folding, lightweight wheelchair for me and I now have it at home ready for the weekend trip to the wedding.
(I've noted that more than one person has advised about The Red Cross... sadly I didn't have the same experience, I was told that a GP's referral letter must be produced?)
Thanks again !

If you are looking to hire wheelchairs in the future there is a new company who do hire in our area called South Coast Mobility Hire. There number is 08452570609 I think they do both day and week hire
