Buffalo Gals
Buffalo Gals are at the forefront of the emerging American roots music scene in the UK and Europe, and represent a revival of the string band tradition in its most vibrant form.. Their intoxicating style, incorporating Appalachian, Blues, Gospel, early Bluegrass, and novelties from the heyday of early country music, is punctuated with the stunning and thrillingly syncopated step-dance that has become one of their trademarks. Combining a love of traditional sounds with an enthusiasm for fresh arrangement and a talent for lively entertainment, they appeal to audiences of all ages and types, whether they be aficionados
of old-time country music or completely new to its charms.
This six-piece band, led by champion Maryland USA fiddler Kate Lissauer, specialises in performance of the old songs and tunes of Appalachia, blues and rags, ballads and work songs, dance numbers, spirituals and gospel, all delivered with passion and flair, and punctuated with the stunning percussive step-dance that has become one of their trademarks.
The visual and musical delights of their performances, as well as their humour and rapport with their audiences, have made Buffalo Gals one of the most sought-after acts on the roots music circuit. They regularly appear at folk, bluegrass, and performing arts festivals, folk clubs and arts centres, as well as at venues throughout the UK with the support of the Arts Council.
The band also teaches workshops on instrumental and vocal aspects of their music and on percussive step-dance and square dance, and works as a square dance band.
Buffalo Gals have released three recorded projects Won’t You Come Out Tonight?, Won’t Get Trouble in Mind, and Won’t You be Cruel to be Kind?
“A feast of fiddle and banjo-led tunes and song in the high lonesome sound of the South Appalachian Mountains. Led by Kate Lissauer, a champion American fiddler and dynamic singer, they mix ballads, blues and spirituals with soaring harmonies and dazzling displays of percussive step-dancing.” The Word
“The Buffalo Gals might just be one of the finest old-time country string bands to date, and by far one of the most talented and inventive groups I’ve so far come across.”Maverick Magazine

Re: YEE HA!!!
- The Millennium Centre (24th May 2013 - 16:41:54)
Activity is really gearing up a notch now as the event date gets closer.
The menu is set for the Ploughmans Supper which will consist of two types of cheese, chunky bread with butter, pickle and mixed salad. This will be served during the first half.
The drinks on the night will be bottled beer / cider, wine which can be bought by the bottle or by the glass and a selection of snacks will be available too.
As we usually encounter a number of people who ‘reserve’ tickets but then don’t turn up we are encouraging payment at time of booking. Obviously you can still call ahead to reserve [01428 723889] but you will need to come and pay within 3 days of reserving.
The volunteers will be arriving at about 6:30pm and the public are expected to arrive at around 7pm. The bar will be open to help you all get settled in!
The Buffalo Gals like to encourage dancing, so after eating the tables may be moved back to enable this to happen with more room. So folks…get your cowboy boots out and give them a polish as you may be wanting to strut your stuff!!!

Hi everyone.
Lots or you have already purchased your tickets, but we just wanted to give those 'thinking about it' a little nudge, as we will be purchasing the food on Thursday and wouldn't want to have too much of a ‘surprise’ with tickets on the door.
Of course you can still purchase tickets on the door, but please [pretty please] can you ring to reserve. We wouldn't want to run out of food, or, horror of horrors’ – drink!
We look forward to a great night of music and dancing and expect to see happy faces all night long!

Fred
Thank you for your kind words. We also thought the evening was great - brilliant band, and although the crowd was not huge, they certainly made up for it in enthusiasm. I personally thought Pete's dancing was great!!
Thank you to everyone who came along, and we are already planning further musical events in the near future, so watch this space!
