Famous people in Liphook
- Dante (30th Mar 2004 11:26:10)
I heard that Roman Abramovich (Chelsea's multi-millionaire Russian owner) can regularly be seen shopping in Sainsburys with his bodyguards.
Does anyone know of any other famous people who regularly stop off in the village?

Terence Conran grew up in Chiltley Lane (according to The Herald), Jane Asher lives in Milland, Errol Flynn and James Hunt apparently lived in Milland too? Some old actor woman lives there and was seen in The Links behaving like a primadonna recently from what i'm told.
The Links is the place for sleb spots - that centre of colonic irrigation, Forest Mere down the road, gives us the delights of Mel C (my dad tells me his friend Andrew the local curate was being eyed up by her, and didn't stop telling everyone all day), Jimmy Saville, George + Alex Best....according to one source, "Forest Mere is regularly visited by celebrities like Joan Collins, David & Victoria Beckham, Frank Bruno, Pierce Brosnan and many others."
And how could we forget Julie Felix?

Yeah, you obviously don't goto the Monday night celebrity bash they call the Bramshott parish council meeting. Rumour has it David Beckham is often there.
Morten Harkett of AHA use to live in Bramshott. I saw him in Circle K with his lovely wife a long time ago.

Given the option in Liphook of sitting around discussing which new firewalled router modem sitting in the garden lap top system is best, or the highlight of the week visiting the Black Fox to guess where the bitter comes from whilst enjoying organic beef and pondering over which field the cows ate the grass in . I think ordering fish & chips delivered by taxi was a pretty shrewd move by Posh & Becks.

By all accounts Becks has been getting his PA to organise more than just a delivery of fish and chips to his hotel room. ;o)

Spotted on the terrace of 'The Links' sitting all alone at one of the benches last night was George Best. He was busily texting from his mobile.
Probably calling a taxi!

He's often in there. I've known a few people see him in there never with an alcholic drink.

Morten Harket of AHA. Joan Armatrading, Dave Stewart of the Eurythmics, Justin Haywood of the Moody Blues, John Noakes, oh, and Shep, Ted Rogers 321 and Dolly Parton. Alright, so i lied about Dolly Parton.....

My friend Diane Hector and I used to deliver the Sunday newspapers to Boris Karloff. We used to scare each other by pretending we had caught sight of him at the window and then run like hell back down the drive. This was back in about 1963.

I thought this picture might be of interest for the famous people thread. Also Reg Lye ( for those who might remember him) lived down the Pines road and used the Deers Hut as his regular, arriving in his old black Morris 1000 Traveller with his Jack Russell dog.

The picture is of Jane Mansfield pulling a pint at the Deers Hut with Bert Oram past landlord.

I never met Boris Karloff, I have driven past his house since 1991. I remember that there used to be a plaque on the side of his house which stated that he used to live there.
I remember seeing the lead singer of AHA, Morten Harket driving across the little bridge in Bramshott, he used to live at Bramshott Meadows. Does anyone have any encounters of seeing him or the great Boris Karloff in the area?
I would love to hear your stories,
Thank you,
David.

I remember Mrs Karloff after her husband died. She paid for the repair/renovation of the St. Mary's church bells as she used to like listening to them from her house. If you look at the house from above, the shape of the house within it's walled garden is coffin shaped! The present owners put up a plaque to commemorate the Karloff's occupancy.
Incidentally, Downton's Lord Grantham (ie Hugh Boneville) lives in the area.

This is more like it !!
I remember when posts on this site were interesting and entertaining (note the original date).
NOT about ...
Endless notes about doggie dirt locations (this must gave happened in the past but we must have deemed it less newsworthy)
There was little about the Parish Council (actually I lie, there were a few but for some reason it seemed slightly more interesting a few years ago).
Or Miss Pikies inability to report (actually this is often fun, so keep that up).
Always good to hear the latest promotions and comments from two particular restaurants !
I'm wetting myself in anticipation as its autumn, and looking forward to the complaints about leaves.
Very disappointed that this years start of school produced very little complaint about traffic in the Avenue, and then even more disappointed about folks laying into the little old dear in a white car outside Bohunt without speaking to her.
...oh - the real point of this post - selling stuff (@Ed can you add a "second hand" link on the website filter this stuff ??)
Cue a torrent of abuse from recent posters - at least that might provide a little light entertainment !! Although I do always enjoy Jocks balanced view and transparent agenda.
Happy weekend :-)
Cheers, Finchie
And if I appear mildly grumpy - did you see Engands rugby shocker yesterday ?

I also saw Felicity Kendall in Sainsburys - not that long ago on a sunday, she was buying all the papers and a huge bag of monkey nuts. Unfortunately I think I stared too much trying to work out whether it was her or not but she smiled at me and I smiled back :), she's really tiny!

Felicity Kendal does indeed have a house in Liphook, I've delivered things to it on a few occasions! She is an ABSOLUTE sweetheart, always has a chat and is a completely genuine, lovely lady.
I also met Evelyn (Karloff) a number of times, and used to help her fill up her car at the petrol station that I worked at a LONG time ago, she was a diamond as well!
:)

I used to walk to and from school in Bramshott circa1969-72 and passed the Karloff residence twice a day. Cannot say I was too bothered about that, what used to give me the creeps was the village of Bramshott itself! Spooky!!!
