Little pink and white flower in The Square
- dawn (1st May 2013 - 16:33:28)

Can one of the Bloomers tell me what the fantastic little mini flowers are in the square?

Hi Dawn

So pleased you like them... was not sure if they had enough impact!!

If they're the little pink and white striped ones in what we call the Silver Birch bed (which has no Silver Birches in - but apparently once did!!) just over from the zebra crossing... then they're peppermint stick tulips.

The tulips are starting to look fantastic now... and the Millennium Hall tulips are at their best right now... also I don't know if you agree, but the Post Office tulips are pretty bright.

They're past their best now, but the Millennium Bed, by Sainsbury's had some very lovely daffodils in - they made me smile every time I went past.

Let's hope the summer is kind, weather wise, and we can make some fantastic displays for everyone to enjoy.

Of course, we must always thank all our sponsors and Friends of Liphook in Bloom, without which none of this would be possible - thank you so much for your continued support.

Thanks again Dawn - it's lovely you noticed.

Miranda

I would second Dawn, they look great. The flowers around the village always look beautiful, we are very lucky! Thank you LIB!

The daffodils in the Millenium bed were stunning this year and much appeciated. I haven't been through the Square in the last few days but am looking forward to seeing those tulips at the weekend!

Came on to Talkback to say how stunning the red tulips looked by the sorting office in Portsmouth Road as I came home last night - and found this thread!

LIB you are making a real difference, thank you!

Are the peppermint sticks bulbs that will come again or are they one-offers!
I might splash out on some if they are the type that come every year (sorry my plant language is limited)!

Hi Dawn

The peppermint sticks should come back every year.

However, at Liphook in Bloom, we only recycle the daffodil bulbs, which we plant along the verges on the roads into the villages, and occasionally in one of the beds in the village.

The tulip bulbs are thought to be more "risky" and sometimes don't come back (although I have some tulip bulbs in my garden that come back year after year)

So, the tulip bulbs are distributed among the school children as small prizes and to other worthwhile causes.

We haven't decided where the tulip bulbs are going to go this year yet, but sometimes they're available for a small donation if you're interested.

Please email me at info@liphookinbloom.co.uk and I'll keep you posted.

Miranda

I have had these peppermint stick {cipriani} tulips in my garden for five years now and they flower every year.
