Weed Spraying
- A. Ryan (25th Apr 2013 - 10:13:32)

I have just seen a vehicle driving along the Haslemere Road, which is spraying weeds . I assume home owners have not been given the option of having this nasty stuff sprayed at the edge of their properties. What is wrong with a few dandelions?
As bees are dying in vast numbers, and some scientists believe weed killers could contribute, should not the council reconsider this practice. If poisons the ground and surrounding air, and is also not healthy for the birds.
If they come up my road I will tell them it is not needed.

I am completely stunned that the council are wasting money like this. I would not be happy to have them spraying my front garden like this, it is ridiculous. Dandelions etc. are also known by another name other than 'weeds' - 'WILDFLOWERS'.

I dont understand why people think an immaculate lawn looks so nice - it's totally unatural and bad for nature !!!

I live on Haslemere Road and am furious that the "weeds" ' have been sprayed. We have lots of doggies sniffing around (all does cleaned up] what are they ingesting? We have a dog and are now worried' Should local residents be in formed what is being sprayed around us?

I am glad I am not the only one that finds this wrong. I do know a lot of people who walk their dogs along this road. I also assume as this was a similar vehicle to a quad bike that alot of distance could be covered.
As to who makes this decision that effects everyone I would like to know.
We have had a most harsh winter, now as soon as a bit of greenery appears , they have sprayed it. Could whomever advocated this idea please explain the necessity behind it.?

There is now only one Residual herbicide approved for use in the UK directly to hard surfaces (even then with caveats)
The product is Nomix DUAL (Glyphosate + Sulfosulfuron).

It must be applied with a spinning disc type applicator as the DEFRA approval states 'droplet VMD must be 200 microns'

In most cases it is illegal now to 'blanket spray'

I just hope the people applying it were NPTC qualified.

I expect once the wildflowers are in flower on the Ham Barn roundabout, they will once again mow them down!

...and perhaps they can let the cow parsley flower in the lanes this year. In the past couple of years it has been cut back just as it comes into flower. Such a pity, I have always regarded it as one of the early signs of summer.

Spend the money on fixing the potholes properly instead! But I expect it is a different department and a different budget that can't be shared.
