I am writing in response to the entry made on 22nd February about Liphook Village Surgery.
The message rolling on the LCD screen in the waiting room is to inform patients of the potential threat that the Government is posing to all GP Surgeries in the country and is not specific to Liphook Village Surgery.
Liphook Village Surgery is under considerably less threat than many GP Surgeries in larger towns and cities and is unlikely to be affected by the plans the Government has to introduce 'polyclinics' to replace local GP Surgeries.
The Local Medical Committee simply asked that we display information to our patients to keep them informed of developments and to ask that patients support their local Surgery by contacting the Primary Care Trust or their local MP to register dissatisfaction at plans which may threaten local GP services in the future.
If you would like to discuss the issue further, I can be contacted on 01428 728272, alternatively there is a leaflet which you can pick up in reception which explains the situation.
Many thanks
Susan Suddards

Hmm. Did this progress, does anyone know?
I thought that the Govt had very little sway over GP surgeries, as they are after all private entities. Polyclinics etc are likely to be NHS or Independently Provided so MAY be competitors to GP surgeries ... but at the end of the day that is different from any GP practise saying it is under threat of closure. The only threat of closure would be the GP practise deciding itself, to close.
Now Post Offices - there's a different story however!

Phil,
Perhaps you should read this BBC news article:

Dear Enida
Many thanks for the link. As the article you signposted says, the suggestion that 1 in 5 GP practises were under threat of closure "... was misleading".
Kind regards,

Dear Phil,
You're very welcome to that link....I was going to post one to the Daily Mail version, but thought that would be too unkind ;)
However, since this story varies depending which Party is telling it, how do we know who to believe??
How do we know the situation wont develop into another 'Post Office' farce? After all, the Government did mislead a lot of people over that....

Dear Enida
Regrettably, every aspect of the UK's Health service is political and subject to change, as you correctly say.
Frank Dobson is on record in the DoH as saying he will personally give £10 to anyone who produces evidence of a good-news or positive story about any element of the UK's health service!
I fear his £10 is safe for a time to come!
Best wishes,

well i for one think that the Liphook Village Surgery are fantastic!!!
They have been sooo helpful to me recently with my daughter who suffered awful burns to her arm in March. They have supported me with my complaint to the RSCH (who don't hold dressings for burns as a matter of course and who dont refer children with 3rd degree burns!! Even when they actually need emergency skin grafts. AVOID!). LVS gave me additional dressings and as much advice/support as they could and actually even more importantly to me they said 'i don't know' when they didn't - instead of trying to pretend they were experts! This was vital in my daughters recovery.
So Thank you Liphook Village surgery!! you all work really hard and i, my 2 daughters and my husband really appreciate it.
I also appreciate that you are doing your best to stick to appointment times - it seems gone are the times when you have to wait an hour and half past your appointment time!! so thank you for that too!

Well Helen, I think LVS is fantastic too!! As are a lot of the small GP surgeries I've ever used up and down the country.
That's why I was a little bit concerned about the plans for HUGE Polyclinics that were being proposed.
However, since recent events...like last Thursday's...the Government might start to think twice about interfering with people's lives quite so much...at least I hope so!
