lead all gone!
- thea (19th Apr 2013 - 10:04:49)

Woke up this morning to see that some lovely people have stripped all the lead off my summer house overnight. You may notice the poor denuded thing as you drive up the Portsmouth Road towards the Square on the left.
The police will send someone round in a couple of days and I get the feeling they have kind of given up on this kind of crime. BUT, did any of the good burghers of Liphook see anything last night? They must have had a vehicle parked right up against the stone wall to pile all the heavy lead into - about 20 square metres. It could have been any time really but I am guessing they would have chosen sometime after midnight perhaps through to pre-Dawn. I would be most grateful if any sleuths out there can help.

Hi Thea, so sorry to hear that your lead has gone, there has been a spate of lead theft around the area lately, sadly all you will get from the police is a crime number for your insurance company.

With regard to replacement of same give me a ring, I can offer an alternative lead lookalike covering which the thieves can tell has no scrap value.

Hi Thea

Sorry to hear about your loss. I have heard that a lot of garages in Chiltee Manor (Haslemere Road), were broken into last night. I don't know if any one saw any thing there.

Dee

Does Lloyds bank have CCTV?
I wonder if they would let the police look at it?

Someone also keeps breaking into the new build that backs onto the road that goes down to the a3, London road (meadow way) there are obviously some nasty people around and we should all be extra vigilant!

we have also had our two mountain bikes stolen from our shed in newtown road , one was a red and white specialized rock hopper the other was a black and red gt with red tyres.

Could it be the same gang 'working' throughout the night? The police think that each incident is separate and 'minor' so they don't take the individual cases that seriously - but in total, they have got away with £1000s and cost a lot more in damage.
My summer house has glass walls, smooth painted surfaces (where finger marks are visible) and the ground is trampled and there are signs on the walls where they clambered over. I would have thought that there might be some useful evidence there but its not even going to be assessed.
They have no hope of catching them basically unless they are caught red handed. It's a nice little earner for two or three guys with a van.
We will definitely be putting in more security measures (they broke our security lights) but feel a little hopeless that this sort of thing isn't a 'big deal' a far as local law enforcement goes.

I don't think the response you've had from the Police is good enough!! As you've said, if all the recent local crimes are added up, it certainly does add up to a great deal of money, so hardly 'minor'.

Why don't you all write to the recently elected Police Crime Commissioner for East Hants, Simon Hayes, and complain?

After all, in his election manifesto he did say that one of his priorities was "to make criminals know they will get caught" ...doesn't sound it's likely to happen at this rate does it!!

Bet if you came into the village at 31mph there would be a complete SWAT team waiting for you. Real policing, do me a favour. Next thing you know they will be asking us to form traffic vigilante groups to go out and even do that soft job for them……………………………….. oh hang on they already have. Chin up!
