Mayor of Liphook - paul (11th Feb 2008 - 08:21:09) Hi, As alot of local people say because of the growing size of Liphook it should be a town not a village. Can we have an election for Mayor or Mayoress of Liphook. I understand this civil position is required to have the status of "town". Names please....

We definitely don't need to be spending more money on trappings and regalia. But it does raise a point, when does a village become a town? If it's by numbers of population, Bramshott & Liphook is growing steadily and will continue to do so.

To be a town, Liphook needs to have (or have had) a Church (presumably, CofE) and a Market. Population, on it's own, is not enough. Why stop there? There is, of course, enough room on the old OSU site to build a cathedral.
