HAMPSHIRE CUP
- Nigel Marr (1st Feb 2008 - 15:41:11)
Those of you that have been following the fortunes of the Liphook United FC men's team will know that they have been performing very well in the Hampshire Saturday Intermediate Cup Competition and this weekend we take on the current holders Fleetlands in the Quarter Final stage.
The football club is very keen to see as many people as possible supporting the team and would welcome any of you at the football club clubhouse at the Liphook Recreation Ground this Saturday at 1:30PM.
Most of the team have played football all the way through the clubs youth structure and this will be the biggest game that they have played in, so they would love to see the Liphook Community get behind them.
Parking will be tight at the recreation ground so we would advise walking where possible which would then mean you could make use of the licenced bar facilities.
Should you have any questions please contact 07775-696178.
Yours in football,
Liphook United Football Club

The only nickname that i can remember Liphook FC having was "The Hooks", although we often heard Mrs Mason shouting from the tea hut Come on "The Blues". Liphook played in blue shirts for as long as I can remember.
Incidently, The Tea Hut in question was like a shed on wheels. It doubled up as a tea hut in the winter for the football and was then towed up the hill and became the scoremans hut for the Cricket.
Alf Jones was the scorer for the cricket and his trade mark was his fag ash never fell off until the last puff. His fag remained the same length all the way down to the end.
Mrs Mason made tea in that hut, in the freezing cold for about 30 years. The best cup of tea in Liphook.

Hot off the press! The draw has been made by the Hampshire FA for the semi-final of the Hampshire Cup and Liphook will be playing away from home against Red Star Spartans FC on the Isle of Wight on Saturday 1st March.
We would like to take a good amount of support with us so if you would be interested in joining the club for this important fixture let us know as we have transport and ferry bookings to make now.
If anyone is also interested in donating some folding stuff to offset the costs of this trip, I will be very happy to speak to you.
Come on the boys!!!!

They were the days Dick. I was there the day we towed the tea hut for the last time, so was my Gran (Mrs Mason)(Vi), She laughed like a drain as the chassis parted company with the Hut. She then went and made the teas in the white elephant for a further few years but always complained as the windows steamed up and she could not see the game.
Had not been to the football for a good few years but was impressed with the standard now on show.
Good Luck in the Semi.

The return ferry sets sail from Fishboune at 19:30 and we should be back in Liphook between 20:30 - 20:45 hopefully.

Re: HAMPSHIRE CUP
- Nigel Marr (2nd Mar 2008 - 18:04:30)
At the time of writing this all I can report is that approximately 150 people made the journey to Newport IOW and had a lovely day out and returned safely to Liphook.
On the footballing front a result that none of the sweepstake permutations predicted was the abondonment of the game shortly into the second half. Liphook were leading 1-0 and were very much in control of the game when a second of the Red Star Spartans players was given a red card and then proceeded to assault the match official. The referee then abandoned the fixture as the rules of the game permit him to do in this situation.
The matter will now be reviewed by the Hampshire FA our governing body who will investigate the matter and provide a judgement on the match result.
Our players were highly commended for the professional manner in which they conducted themselves whilst events unfolded and as chairman I am extremely proud of them and for the strong leadership that Kevin Adair showed on the field.
We will post more news when we know the outcome of the FA findings.
Thanks for all the support that the club received from our travelling supporters and those who were with us in spirit as well.

- Dick (2nd Mar 2008 - 23:26:16)
Well Done Liphook.
Nigel,
It would seem that you have a very strong case in having the game awarded to you.
1. Red Star Spartans, showed total disregard for the official. Assault on an Official, not only carries a life time ban for the player, but a very heavy fine for the club.
2. The cost of a "Rematch" on the Isle of Wight should be considered by The F.A. Liphook is a small club and financial resources are limited. I would consider asking for your expenses should a rematch be ordered by Hampshire, even if that rematch were to take place at the Rec. If I am correct, that game was a finish on the day, and no replay was accounted for. It would also disrupt your fixture list.
I was glad to hear that Liphook conducted themselves in an exemplary manner. They have done very well over the last few years and have built a strong team spirit, and I put a lot of this down to Kevin's leadership. It would seem "The Boy" has come of age...
Keep us all informed of the outcome.

Re: HAMPSHIRE CUP
- Nigel Marr (12th Mar 2008 - 11:30:07)
The latest information that I have after speaking to the Hampshire FA this morning is that a hearing has been set up for 27th March where our opponents will have to appear if they wish to contest the charges that have been brought against them. This assumes that they take the option to request a hearing in front of the discipline panel rather than the option to plead guilty to the charges. The exact details of the charges are not disclosed to us as they are a matter for the Hampshire FA and our opponents. So it's basically a sit tight and wait to hear the outcome when it comes through.
Many thanks
