Southern Electric
- Alan Baker (24th Jan 2008 - 10:58:33)

I've just been visited by a young man from Southern Electric (he had an authentic looking pass), with a strange story about checking the postcode.

Also claimed to my partner that his manager was here a few weeks ago - that was not true.

As I'm not one of their customers (and get fed up of Southern Electric coming round every few months asking the same stupid question) I basically ended up closing the door on him.

It was obvious that he was only calling on NON Southern Electric customers - so what was he really up to ?

Have you actually tolerated a discussion with them and found out what they are after ?

In the past I have reported them back to SE as one even said he had come to read my meter !

I had regular visits from Southern electric when I lived In Bordon.
They were not my supplier and they tried many tactics to engage me in a conversation which had I obliged, would have led into a sales pitch.
They soon stopped coming round when I told them I would report these constant visits as harrassment.

Hi all,

I lived in Portsmouth until a year ago and had many encounters with cold calling from people claiming to be from southern electric and other energy suppliers too. They were actually working for a separate company to try and get as many non southern electric customers to switch suppliers. they tried at the time to say that my meter was going to fast and i needed to have it slowed down so or else i am paying too much and could they have access to the meter. I then had the pleasure of working for southern electric and the main focus at the time was sell sell sell and try to get as many people to sign up for duel fuel. it was all about targets and i didnt like it so needless to say i didnt stay long. it was the meter point reference number they needed and they could change my supplier without my signature or even my consent. that is why in the past (i have not heard so much over the last 18 mths or so) there has been so much hassle with people saying they didnt change to another supplier. im sure most of these coldcallers are genuine but some will use whatever tactics necessary to get their commission so be on your guard as you would any cold caller
