Can you recommend a solicitor and/or surveyor?
- First time buyer (3rd Apr 2013 - 07:36:25)
Please - can anyone recommend a good - that is quality and value (on a tight budget!) - conveyance solicitor and a local surveyor?
Many thanks.

We used an online solicitor, as did the others in our chain when we moved 18 months ago. Was a far superior and cheaper experience to previous move of ours with a Frimley based one.
We used 1st Property Lawyers, easy to google them. The fees were all published up front and we had no nasty surprise bills for calling them etc. They were also a grand cheaper than the cheapest local quote we got. You have an online record of everything, and can track all the progress. Would not hesitate to go down same route again.
Good luck

Hi
For a conveyancing solicitor we have used Potter Owtram and Peck in Haslemere (just opposite Waitrose front entrance) for two house sales. Their phone number is 01428 642321. They've always been very good and a good price.
I can't help with a surveyor I'm afraid, we've always had a mortgage company appointed one.

Hi
I have always used Burley and Geach, here in Liphook, their number is 01428 722334, or their office in Petersfield, 01730262401, I have always found them to be very good and their price is also reasonable.

Hi
I am a local estate agent in the village and would recommend Rebecca Ferguson of Burley and Geach in Liphook. Surveyor wise i've found J.T. Cartwright of Midhurst very good. He can be contacted on 01730 814 816.
In my experience on-line conveyancers are okay if you are a seller but there can be problems if you need to see them. Also they can struggle with more complex cases. For buying I would recommend you consider using a solicitor that knows the area you are buying in

Contact jill.williams@macdonaldoates.co.uk for a quote (MacDonald Oates in Petersfield) or 01730 268211.
Not the cheapest firm but a friendly and efficient service from fully qualified lawyers, also members of the Conveyancing Quality Scheme. See LinkedIn profile for recommendations.
Try Jacobs & Hunt in Petersfield for a surveyor if you don't want to use mortgage lender's valuer for a full home buyers survey.
Cheapest isn't necessarily the best but it is difficult when you are on a tight budget - we've all been there. Good luck with your first purchase!
